Feedback on Middlesex County College / Raritan Bay Med Ctr nursing program

Published

Hi everyone...

I'm very interested in getting into the Middlesex county college nursing program for Fall 2011 (the next open period). From what I've gathered so far, a year of pre-reqs is a good plan prior to getting in. I was curious if anyone has any feedback or experience with the program in terms of wait list, expectations, etc. I'm a 42 year old male and am career changing from IT to nursing. I've always been really people oriented, and it will be good to get into a field that has a lot more of a human element to it.

I've done a lot of consideration and am really excited about nursing, but want to make sure MCC is the right decision for my school.

Thanks in advance for any feedback -

Hello everyone, best of luck to all applying! I applied for the program at MCC in July 2009 and took the TEAS in January 2010. They did raise their GPA requirements for Fall 2011 and they now require at least 76% on your TEAS. Over the course of the year I worked on some of my science classes just 'in case' I got in. I'm so glad I did because it helped lighten my workload tremendously. I can recommend great teachers for A&P and Microbiology so if you need that info let me know.

I graduated in May and like Sam can't say enough for the teachers. I felt they really went above and beyond to help students. Like anything yes, you get what you put in, I was extremely dedicated to making sure I was able to get as much as possible out of the program. I passed my NCLEX with 75 questions in under an hr. I was also able to get help from the instructors with my resume and cover letter as well as letters of recommendation.

I was just hired at RBMC and feel that the teachers truly care.

My word of advice keep in mind your a student, don't try to "show off" to the instructors most know how to put you in your place if your like that. I knew my stuff and answered the questions I was asked, helped out the classmates I could and got along GREAT with the instructors. I think alot of people are just plain kiss*sses and get upset with their brown nosing didnt work with the instructors.

As for prerecs get as many does before you start the program as you can. I took winter and summer classes to lighten my load during nursing semesters and really think it's the smartest thing to do. GOOD LUCK

Thank you so much for the Luck and for all your adivce. I def feel ready for this and I'm super excited. I'm hoping to get as much done as I can before applying for nursing or while waiting to hear back from them. Congrats on graduating and your new job all your hard work paid off. I hope to be in your shoes someday. I'm so happy I found this site so I have others to talk to and get advice.

has anyone gone to middlesex community college in nj for lpn course???

Middlesex doesn't have an lpn program or course. You can try Middlesex Vocational, they have an lpn program.

If you got along great witht the instructors, then good for you. There'ss ome instructors there that I've just wanted to ask "If you're so miserable and unreceptive to students, why are you in what's called a "caring" profession? Clinical instructors that bully, complaints that fall on deaf ears, and staff that really just sit around and don't do anything. Some lectures are now "banished" to the other part of campus because the insanity of 90+ students yapping away in the hallway, texting, and gossiping was just too much for other teachers in the building. If you're in the program, the Spring class (122) is NOTORIOUS for it's drop-out rate. Exams, well, I'm not even going there. You've been warned.
