ANYBODY THATS A CNA PLEASE EXPLAIN WHY YOUR SO FED UP!!!! BECAUSE I AM!!
And maintenance ie glorified housekeepers! THEY are never short staffed. Heaven forbid they don't spend half their day on break and the other half walking around trying to look like they're going somewhere, with a little bit of work thrown in for good measure- they just might quit! Seriously they buff the floors occasionally, take trash to the dumpsters twice a day, and turn the AC on- presto their work is done! And there are like 10 of them working hanging around talking to housekeepers every day! Put some of them to work as CNAs and THEN ***** to us if the beds aren't hospital cornered or a liner isn't in the trash can! You know you'd think it would be up to housekeepers to take trash out and even make beds but no, I guess you need to be state-tested for THAT!

Last month I saw the head of maintenance washing his car in the small parking lot behind the facility. Funny how when we called maintenance to come fix the AC, everyone was "busy" at the moment.
I'm "sure" he was doing it on his break, right?
I just starting working as a CNAII at the beginning of the summer, and I'll be honest, I HATE it. I'm a nursing student in the middle of my BSN (I'll graduate in 2 semesters) and thought working at the local hospital as a CNA would be a good experience, not to mention be a good way to get my foot in the door for post-graduation. I've come to discover that I hate being a CNA and no longer even want to be a nurse.
I'm on a post-op floor and it's normal for me to have 10-12 patients a day. WHile that doesn't seem like a lot compared to others on here, at least half are total care patients. I go to work at 7a and hit the floor shortly after. Before I can even get 2 patients' vitals done, FSBS, and drains/foleys emptied, I'm being paged to not 1, but 3 or 4 other rooms at the same time. The worst part is- this goes for the ENTIRE 12 hour shift and very rarely do other CNA's or RN's on the floor step in to help (not saying never). It becomes h*ll when multiple post-ops are arriving at the same time and I'm in the middle of caring for other patients at the time.
Like I said, I've only been at it for 8 weeks but I'm already feeling burnt out and absolutely despise going to work now. I obviously won't have to do it for much longer since school starts again in August, but the thought of doing 3-4 12 hour shifts that leave me tired, sore, and insanely grumpy is just not what I'm looking forward to!
I also can't stand the lack of communication that the managers have with me, the way the other CNA's are able to stand around and run their mouths the entire shift without lifting a finger (and I get paid less), the way the assignments are made (rather having patients in a clump, they're spread all over the floor), the fact that I can never find a vital sign machine nor Accucheck when I need one, or never being able to take a break to sit down and even eat a snack b/c no one else is willing to cover my patients.
Okay, all done. Venting feels better.
Workplace has cut our numbers so we can't even deliver half the care the patients deserve, more and more stuff is piled on us as 'The CNA's job' so that its impossible to get even half the work done, unappreciated by management, staff, and family, dealing with rubbish all day long... SICK of taking the blame for things not being done (and I mean unimportant things like clenaing audits, not the important stuff!) when they won't even adequatly staff us to do the most basic care!
I'm sick of visitors/family/etc.. walking in while I'm doing peri-care. If the door is closed, that should be clue to the person "hey, maybe I should knock" Its so annoying to look around and see visitors walking in while the person is laying there exposed!
Tell me about it!!
A BAAAAD case of this happened to me last Christmas season.
I was in the middle of doing peri care to a woman in a private room (and our private rooms don't even have privacy curtains) when a group of younger elementary school kids burst into the room singing Christmas carols. 4 of them got into the room and got a front row view of a 90 year-old woman's genitals before I was able to get the blanket pulled up over her and was ordering everyone to get out.
I wonder if they got put on Santa's naughty list for barging in like that??
Why am I fed up? Well...
Short staffed all the time
Never have the supplies that I need
No one knows what teamwork is anymore
Tired of seeing lazy no good CNA's get paid for NOT doing their job and somehow keep their job
Residents being treated like lower humans
Nurses that don't appreciate a GOOD CNA that goes over and above their job duties
The pay just sucks for everything that we have to endure.
I think that just about sums it up for me. At least, that's all I can think of for now. Great thread BTW.

Its like people dont get it..when the door is closed, you should knock! I thought that was just common sense..:uhoh3:

It's amazing the people you find that are lacking in the "common sense" department. I mean, the door is CLOSED! There is a reason for that! Duh! I too hate that. Even if the door is shut, if there is a curtain, I pull it. I mean, if that was me in that room and someone walked in I would freak out!

Unfortunately at my facility the majority of the rooms are private suites, so there's no curtain in the room.

Wow, I'm thankful for all the wonderful aides I work with. We do have "assignments" at our facility, but we never go by them. We just help each other out as much as we can.
