Fear nursing dx

Published

I am trying to find evidence base for a patient with loneliness (that causes lack of sleep) without a roomate. I got through two diagnoses for this care plan but this one part requires 6 interventions as well:banghead: Help:bow:

Specializes in med/surg, telemetry, IV therapy, mgmt.

To my knowledge:

  • lack of sleep is not a defining characteristic or related factor of the nursing diagnosis of Fear
  • lack of sleep is not a risk factor of the nursing diagnosis of Risk for Loneliness

Perhaps if you gave more specific information about your nursing diagnostic statement I could be of more help. However, it does not make sense to me that a lack of sleep is a cause of fear or loneliness.

Sorry, I didn't even put my nursing dx. My professor relayed her issue as Fear of loneliness so I was going to use fear. That is really what kept her up most of the night. What I really need though is a way to figure out 6 interventions for fear (of loneliness) related to night time (lack of sleep) :banghead:.:nurse:

I'll be the first to tell you that I dislike these psychosocial diagnoses. The best I can offer is to get to a library and look up loneliness to find some interventions for it. They won't necessarily be found in nursing textbooks, I don't think.

it sounds more like anxiety to me. esp if the patient can't sleep

i agree.

and, (fear of) loneliness is not the same as (fear of) being alone.

it 'sounds' like this person has a fear of being alone, which would create anxiety.

i would think fear r/t lack of support as evidenced by c/o insomnia, restless, tearful, verbalization of lonleiness etc... and for the interventions, sit with patient and listen to her, provide emotional support, refer her to psychologist, refer her to the social groups where she can join and find friends???
