Hello,
I recently got an acceptance letter from FDU.
It says, NURSING ACCELERATED- 2 YEAR PROGRAM.
I thought every accelerated program is about 15 months, not 2 years.
Maybe because I don't have a BA degree at the time of application? (I am graduating from Rutgers this May)
Does anyone have any information about this program?
Also I am worried about the cost too
So I am waiting for UMDNJ and Hunter college's decision letters (cheaper than FDU).
If anyone is/was in FDU 2 year program, would you share with me?
Thank you!!
Hello! I was just accepted into the 2011 cohort for FDU's 2 year program as well. I'm still waiting on the actual packet from the nursing program, I've only gotten the general admission information yet...apparently it's in the mail!
Does anyone who got their acceptance a little earlier have any information about the August orientation, how/when we register for classes, uniforms, etc.? I'm hoping the rest of my information will arrive early this week, but I'm anxious to start getting myself organized!
Hey everyone wanted to give you an update on FDU. Today I finally received information on the ABSN orientation. It will take place on August 17th and 18th from 10:00am - 4:30pm. I have already sent in my reservation for the program to the program director. My packet included more medical paperwork (that is due soon if you haven't already done it), a form to fill out for a Federal Scholarship for Disadvantaged Students, and it also says that these will be the days that we will receive counseling and register for our classes.
For those of you going you must be there for this orientation, by the way it is for students who are starting the 2 year program. The 18th month program started in May already. There are no more seats available to students, and they are now on a waiting list. If you are not going to the program you must contact the school so they can fill your seat
Hope this helps people I will be back if you need anymore information as I go
thanks @Ms Bryant. I got the orientation info packet also for 2year program. Does anyone know who is eligible for "Federal Scholarship for Disadvantaged Students"??? Is it need-based scholarship?
Also I am thinking about to defer my acceptance to next May for the 1year program after I take Ethics class. I asked the coordinator in February right after I got accepted to 2yr program and she said the reason I wasn't offered 1yr program is because I am missing ethics pre-req so She suggested me to take it so I can be given 1yr program acceptance but I didn't take it and still with 2yr program. FDU is really expansive so I am really hesitant.I really don't know how I will pay for this program.
Does anyone know what kinds of loans are available? The packet also included info about uniforms and nursing kit and stuff...which made me really excited. but at the same time, I really don't know if I should do this $60,000 program or not...i really want to do..if anyone anyone has info about loans or Scholarships, would you share?? thank you!

Alright I have the packet in front of me (for those who may not have it) and this is what it says about the Application for the Scholarship for Disadvantaged Students...basically you fill out your information number of dependents and your adjusted gross income...it is also asking for your place of residence, credits completed, grade point average, where you work, languages you speak, if you receive tuition reimbursement, and did you or did you not fill out your FAFSA. I believe that it is based on your financial need but also if you really do come from a certain background...I was interested in the Federal Nursing Loan Assistance Program as well but I am not a New Jersey resident...I was also thinking about not going because of the cost but in the state of Maryland they do not have Bioethics so instead I am taking the Economics course at my local community college...doing the math the fall semester will run you for 12 credits approximately 12-13 grand...my other option is to go ahead and complete some course but see if I can transfer back to Maryland state nursing programs at a cheaper cost...most of the loans and scholarships are online on their website and you will see most are for residents not non residents...have you thought about the HRSA Nursing Scholarship Program
This program will allow you to apply to them if you have already enrolled or are going to enroll into a nursing program full time...it will cover your entire tuition, room, and board....but also give you a monthly stipend of $1,200...all you need is an academic and non academic recommendtion...you need to write 3 essays...upload or fax your unoffiical transcripts from your school (you are attending or have attended if you haven't already started classes)....your FAFSA information stating that your EPC is "0"....your birth certificate and your Nursing School Official's paperwork...they start the application process every year opening up around April and the application is due by the end of May...and any other information is due before July because they notify you by
August
You might watnt to consider getting loans through the school just to help you for right now or see if you can't go online to several different locations and look for grants/scholarships for Nursing school...this is what I am doing with no such luck it looks like more debt to come my way but it's worth it...see if your bank can't help you out
Will keep you posted and hopefully the information I have given you will help here is a link to their grants/scholarhips page
Wow @Ms Bryant!!!! thank you so much. I want to give you 5 kudos for your reply!!!! all the information i really wanted to know in clear and concise manner! thank you so much. this will def help me to decide whether i should go or not. and yea, I think she told me economics...I think I got confused with other school that required me to take ethics...again, thank you!!!! :)

Yeah no problem the person I had contact with her name is Professor Rubin she is very friendly and was the one who sent me information concerning the curriculum...the cost per credit...and no you are right I have the curriculum in front of me...if you have taken both Bioethics and Economics they will consider you for the 18 month program...they have to be completed...I am taking Economics because she told me it would be best because it knocks down the tuition by $3,000 (yeah it's that much)...you might want to go with your original idea with delaying it and taking your necessary classes since you have already been accepted...my issue is my classes will be obsolete by next year due to the fact that I stayed at community college for so many years...I didn't attend my Bachelor's of Science program for Pre Physical Therapy until 2007 and graduated in 2009...I have no choice but to go and then transfer out if it becomes too much...if I am not mistaken there is a 10 year limit on all science classes to be considered
Also you can save money and maybe find other programs that may be of interest and cost much less
Good luck to you and I will keep in touch when Orientation rolls around
I am looking at the curriculum now and the 1 year program starts during Summer Session I and ends Spring Semester...so yeah it looks as if it is less than 12 months to be honest...and it also includes an intersession between Fall and Spring because it looks like you don't even have much of a winter break to be honest...I am also wondering if we need to order the uniforms from Dove and pay the extra money...if we have alternatives to get the items that we need for the nursing kit can we do that as well
