FCCJ's acceptance

Published

Okay, have anyone know if they had in the past accepted any total points lower than 180? I went to take the test today and got my results back. Here is what happened. I did much better than the last test compare to national average BUT only increased 7 points in the row score. How aweful! I don't think I'm going to make it. The question was like lightening 90 questions for 30 minutes, 40 questions for 20 minutes. I'm about to give up trying to be a nurse. I feel like the test is very discrimated against me as an individual person. I'm so depressed right now.

Don't give up:nono:........ how far off are you from 180? You never know what the applicant pool is gonna be so it is always worth at least submitting. The 180 pts thing is just an average on the lowest that got accepted for the previous semester. I'm sure they have had some lower than 180 get in. Did you use the study guide for the NAT?

I did but when I took the test I felt like it was a waste of time using that study guide. I used not one but two different study guides. I wouldn't recommend using those study guide at all. Over all, if I get an A on Micro, I will get the total of 176- 177 something like that. I'm gonna try St. John since they don't weight much on the points. I mean they do but on the test they just want you to make at least 50 percent of it? I'm not sure. I don't know what to think and I'm not getting any younger. It's very upsettin, because I have a very good GPA of 3 something plus and I can't even do the test thing. My husband said maybe I can try a different profession or something but I had spent about two to three years taking the prereqs for nursing. If I just let it goes like that it will be like what a waste of time and money. Beside I have no idea what I will do if I can't make to the nursing :bluecry1:

I'm not so sure about this....I'm pretty positive that the number they give--180, 185, whatever--is the cutoff, not the average. big difference.

Just going by what the advisors said - you can submit an application with as little as 120 pts ......... not much of chance of getting in, but they will consider it if all requirements are met. The 180 - 185 has been past cutoff points. It is my understanding that they rank you by your points.... so theoretically if there are 36 spots and 177 pts is the 36th best score then they will let you in the program as long as all pre-req and other requirements are met.

Just trying to put some hope out there for ya, 12breakfree!!!!!

How are you able to have a 3.0 GPA and not able to do well on the NAT? I had all A's and B's in my pre-req, except for college algebra and english lit (taken 15 years ago in a former beer soaked college life) and I still had 208 points with the NAT.

True, but with nursing becoming more and more competitive, I would anticipate that this cut-off would only get higher, not lower. I know my two friends and I each had over 200 points. I'm really not trying to be pessimistic, but I am trying to be realistic.

I say apply and see what happens--you almost have enought points and it's really dependent on the pool of applicants (as you know). If you don't get in, maybe start with the LPN route and go from there????

Good luck.

yay my first post here! after reading about the cutoff points i am really scared that i'm not going to get in this fall. :(

I have no idea but I did study. I guess it wasn't enough. I don't know what else to do. I had completed all my prereqs and you know they only allow you take it twice a year. Your fate is based on your performance on the test. If you screwed it up, which I did, well, you screwed. Thanks for the encourages everybody. I feel like this is the only place where I can go find comfort and people who truely understand me. My family don't really know much, so they don't know what I'm going through. It's hard to find comfort in this kind of situation in them.
