FCCJ Summer 2010 hopefuls...

U.S.A. Florida

Is it too early to start a thread like this? LOL

I'll be finishing up my pre-requisites this fall, and then applying in the spring for the Summer 2010 session. I still need to study for the NAT and actually take the exam and take a CPR course. I'm considering getting my CNA and trying to find work in healthcare to get my foot in the door.

I am so nervous about the whole process, nervous about whether I should try to work and go to school, and especially nervous if this is something I can handle. I am afraid of all the responsibility.

Anyone else planning for next Summer? What is your process looking like, what are your thoughts/feelings?

:nurse:

my first post. :)

Anyway, I plan on Applying for the FCCJ this summer too.

Is it true that the Chemistry grade doesnt get added with your points?

I was counting on that 16 points from the A I got in the class to bring me up.

Without the A from Chemistry, instead of the 119 I expected to get from my grades, I will only get a 103. Im aiming to get at least a 200 with the NAT, which I didnt take yet, because I saw that the cutoff was at 193.

200-103=97 which is the points I would need

97/.64= 152 would be the raw score I need for the NAT part

Is it true the total for the 3 parts that FCCJ uses are 90 90 and 40?

how realistic is it to be able to get a raw score total of 150+ on the NAT portion

ljonm, unfortunately it is true! The Chemistry is just a prereq to Micro and doest not count in your point total. Bummer, I know!

That sucks. Thanks for the info.

Do you happen to know anything about the NAT and the average scores for people got on it?

If it's true that the total points are 220, 152 out of 220 is about 70%

I just want to know if I should be less worried about it... or more worried.

I'm not too sure about the total points. I do know that you only have to worry about three sections on it. Some people rock it and others need the second attempt:D! You are allowed to take it twice in a year but they have to be 90 days apart, I believe. When you take it the second time, it's the exact same test! Which will increase your points! It is basic material and you should do fine on it. I personally think that the review books that you can buy are much harder than the actual exam.

I hope that some of this helps!

yeah, im aware of how we can take the test again, but im really aiming to do good the first time so I can get in for the Summer term and not wait 90 days to take it again.

thanks for the help though.

Also, still sucks how I worked an A in Chem because I thought needed the points, lol.

For the people applying for the FCCJ 2010 Summer term, what are your estimated points? just wondering if my chances are good are not.

I have to wait till I take the NAT to know mine, but from my grades I should have the 103pts like I said before.

I have(w/o the Chem grade I hoped would count) 4 A's 3 B's and 1 C.

My points before the NAT was 105 points! I ended up getting 97.28 points on the NAT with my total overall being 202.28 which landed me a seat for Spring 2010 it is possible and the NAT is not difficult, I do believe you will be over the 200 pts when u take the NAT :)

thanks

Im still kind of worried because summer semester only accepts 96 students unlike the 140+ for other semesters and the cutoff was at around 193pts for the spring semester.

Im thinking low 200's might not be enough for summer with them taking about 50 students less. Maybe less people will apply because they dont want to go to school over summer....

Any advice for taking the NATs?

thanks

Im sorry to say but lots will apply for the summer also! LOL!!! There were several girls that got in for the Spring 2010 and declined their seats because they wanted Nights and weekends. The will be reapplying for the summer in order to get the N/W classes!

As for the NAT, it was basic math, reading comprehension, A&P, and chemistry. I did the worse on the reading comprehension because Im a slow reader :D but did well on the other sections. I am retaking the NAT at the end of January and currently have (after this semester) 194 points. Im hoping that it will increase after the NAT again, which Im sure it will =)

However, I do not want the N/W classes. I need to go during the day so I just need enough points to get in!!!! I can't imagine having to stress over competing for the N/W classes in addition to competing just for a SEAT!!!!

Good Luck ;) Im keeping my hopes up that this will be my semester! Although, going to school in the summer will be hard with my kiddos out of school!

Brush up on your middle school math! Its fairly simple and asks general questions on each section.

Stupid girls, lol.

Off-topic, how many people other than me are guys here?

Dont know why the N/W classes are so on demand.

I'd much prefer the daytime classes since that is what Im used to.

Also, if those girls declined, does FCCJ send a letter of acceptance to the person with the highest points that wasnt accepted?

Funny!! If someone declines a seat then they just go to the next person in order of points! I was told by the secretary that the "cut off" points is just that..the cut off for the term. She told me that if someone declines a seat, the person that is offered the spot is below the cut off points. Im not sure how low below the cut off the usually go!

Oh, you will be glad to know that if you're a male, you get 5 bonus points =)

JUST JOKING about the bonus points!!!! LOL, I do believe that there are several guys on here :D
