FCCJ/FSCJ Fall 2010 Hopefuls

U.S.A. Florida

I know it is kind of early to start this thread but I thought maybe there were some others out there who are planning on applying for fccj/fscj fall 2010 RN program. Hope you will post on this thread!

Now I'm worried.

The best advise I was given was to plan to pay for everything yourself. Do not depend on your financial aid. Then if it goes through it is a bonus for you but if it doesn't you are still good. I know it's stressful but you can find a way!!!! Have a Merry Christmas!!!

Paying for it yourself is also a powerful incentive to perform well.

I don't have a problem about performance; I have a problem for not being able to afford it. But, if there's a will, there's a way, right... Mercy me.

Are iPhones, etc... allowed in school/clinicals for the apps in the FSCJ program?

In both cases, it depends. Both instructor and hospital rules vary.

If you haven't purchased a stethoscope yet, thought I would post that there is a stethoscope forum.

I turned in my appeal at North campus last Monday because of the 150% rule placed against my financial aid. I was so bummed to find out on Connections that my appeal is denied. I am so down and don't know what to do. I work full time but my husband is unemployed and we have two young girls both in school. I'm thinking of going to Worksource. Do you think Worksource will help me? I'm a bit confused though, it said my appeal is denied but next to my Current Program of Study which is Nursing, it said financial aid approved. But I think I'm not eligible. I'm so sad. I'm hoping to start this summer. Anyone has any advice on what to do? Should I go talk to an academic advisor? There goes my weekend.

fromjaxfl: The same exact thing happened to me. My finantial aid was denied because I'm in the 150%'tile. Apparently, I have too many credits. No finantial aid=No student loans. I'm not done with those people. This cannot be the absolute and final answer....I'm checking into payment options. I also have a Sallie May student loan I might try and add onto but lastly, borrowing from my 401K. My husband also is unemployed but I make too much money to qualify for the Work Source Program :( I checked into that too. Is there any scholarships for women 40+, married, grown children with lower middle class income? The only ones I see are for displaced homemakers, single moms, low income, minority...etc....

Orchid0270,

I will try Worksource and Sallie May (thanks for the idea). I was invited to join Thi Theta Kappa so I might just do that and perhaps I can apply for scholarships through them. Is that a good idea? Does anyone here a Thi Theta Kappa member? My brain is in overdrive trying to find ways on how to finance my nursing education. Maybe we should have a petition for students who are in the 150% rule who are career changer, change goals, low income, 35 and above. Someone out there should help us.

Ops, I meant to say Phi Theta Kappa....

can someone pleas explain to me what the 150% rule is? I really dont understand it.

Right now I have 67 credit hours, 30 of those are my nurse pre reqs.

My major says AA and AS/AAS

Would it be 100% of my nursing or AA?

I spoke to a VERY reliable source just yesterday about where the nights/weekends classes will be held and she said it will definately be in the Deerwood Campus. Apparently, FSCJ has a rotating schedule, all the way out to 2044 (!), of where the N/W classes will be held. Fall term will be in Deerwood, then get this...there will be N/W classes for Spring 2011 term (also in Deerwood) but no N/W classes for Summer 2011 term. Then the N/W will start back up again for Fall 2011 term, but at the North Campus.

So, anytime you have questions of where the classes will be located, they can just look at the predetermined schedule and advise you (good thing to know!)

Are you sure that Fall 2011 N/W will be held at North Campus? Someone posted on another thread that it will be at Deerwood. I live close to the northside area and if it's in Deerwood I need to shift things around. I kept calling the Nursing dept. but I only got voicemails. Thanks.
