FAU Traditional BSN Program Fall (August) 2015

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hey there! :) Fall 2015 applications have started for Florida Atlantic University's Traditional BSN Program. I didn't see another thread talking about it so I decided to bring it up. If there is another thread, please link me to it!

To anyone applying to the same term: Have you taken the TEAS exam? I was going to pick up my review book today at B&N. I expect to probably take it twice and hopefully before next year! Where did you guys take the TEAS and how did you do?

I heard the deadline for applications is January 9, 2015. Their website hasn't updated yet from last term.

This is also my first time working with the NursingCAS and I'm still working on my application.

I hope that March 13th was not the only day for the interviews :sorry: I'm sure they need more than one day to go through 80 applicants. (I heard that they only interview 80. Sorry if I'm wrong though).

The orientation day is already in April according to the program page. I might try to give them a call. I'm a little nervous about it because I know my chances of getting into this program aren't that great lol. I gotta stay positive though!

I called on Monday and the lady said she thinks interviews were only that day and decisions would be made at the end of the week. So if we didn't get an interview invitation, we are pretty much denied lol. I was prepared for that though... sorry to be the one to tell you! But it doesn't hurt to call again and find out any more info.

@ashtay06 Aw man! :( I mean to be honest, I figured as much lol. Don't be sorry at all! I would like to give them a call still but at this point, it doesn't sound too good. I was hoping they would at least send a denial letter.

I'll try to see if I give them a call tomorrow.

Good afternoon everyone! ashtay06, you were right. March 13th seemed to be the only day for their interviews and they were surprisingly on top of that considering the push-back dates of the TEAS exam as well as the application.

I received my rejection letter from FAU this morning. It's a little sad but it's okay! It just means that I was meant to go somewhere else. I wish the best of luck to everyone else who was accepted into the program. I hope everyone does well and maybe I'll see you around in the field itself!

@ cmocta: I'm so sorry to hear that... I wish you all the best as well!

I'm honestly surprised myself to read that the 13th was the only day for interviews considering the last day of processing was still slated for the 16th. :\ I really believed more interviews would follow up after.

As a transfer student I received no assistance with advising upon starting at this university. No one was willing to meet up with me. I declared my major as pre-nursing and was finally able to set up an appointment with a nursing advisor. She gave me the wrong information. Pre-reqs for nursing school include Anatomy & Physiology 1 & 2. Over the summer, there were slots open for A&P 2 (but no courses offered in A&P 1 until the fall). She informed me that students must take A&P 1 first, followed by A&P 2 - I did not sign up for A&P over the summer, based on this information. My application for nursing school had to be put off an entire year, because both A&P 1 & 2 need to be completed before January. I was later informed that A&P 1 is not required to take A&P 2.

After applying to the nursing program, I was placed on the wait list. A few days later, I received an acceptance letter from Assistant Dean of the School of Nursing!

"Congratulations! Upon recommendation of the Admission and Progression Sub-Committee, I am pleased to inform you of your preliminary acceptance into the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program (Traditional track) at the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing, Florida Atlantic University."

My family and I were ecstatic. I'm a model student with an exceptional GPA & a volunteer at the local hospital, so we all felt the acceptance was well-earned. The extended family was notified and it was one of the happiest moments of my life. The following day, I received this email:

"I must aoplogize for any miscommunication that has went out regarding an update in the background check. The email sent out was sent to everyone in reference to code changes, unfortunately the email stated you had been "preliminary accepted" into the program. To avoid further confusion, you are still on the wait list. Again I apologize for any miscommunication on our behalf."

An email from one of the office assistants, the "miscommunication" apparently wasn't deserving of a letter from the assistant dean. I was devastated. I tried repeatedly to get an appointment with the assistant dean to discuss with her what happened. She finally agreed to meet with me, but then cancelled later that day; in essence telling me that she does not meet with wait-listed students. There are far "too many" students applying to FAU and that's her policy.

I'm been a devoted student at FAU since 2010 (also working full-time to help put myself through school). I also tutor Biology (& a bevy of other science courses), assisting students with passing difficult science courses.

The staff's treatment of students is truly heartbreaking. & for a nursing school that prides itself on "kindness" and compassion. I've received nothing but callousness and indifference. You are just a # at FAU and as long as they have your money, that's all that matters.

Hi Anonymous105,

I'm so sorry you had to go through that. I went through a similar situation where Broward College notified me of a scholarship I qualified for but it was a mistake and I didn't receive anything at all. I know that it was nothing compared to what FAU did to you but I thought of that situation when you mentioned this.

It's upsetting that they didn't notify you or let you know that you could've taken A&P ll first since it was available before A&P l. At BC, you need to take A&P l then A&P ll (at least when I was completing those courses that was the policy)

I can understand that there are so many students that they can't see everyone face-to-face but you're also an FAU native. You've been with them and they couldn't give you the time of day? I know favoritism isn't an option either I guess but still.

Again, I'm really sorry they put you through that. It really is heartbreaking. I feel like I would be in tears and just really upset if I got an acceptance letter only later to find out I've been wait-listed. I hope they become aware of this issue so they can work harder to prevent this from happening again in the future.

I'm not sure if you're still attending FAU but i really hope you get what you deserve since you sound like an excellent student.

I'm only seeing this post even if its weeks late and I'm sorry about what happened.

I am curious though, when did this happen though? I mean the part about trying to speak with the Assistant Dean and all? I'm kind of basing that event by when you posted this (April 23rd) and no offense to you, if you tried talking her that week or in the previous week then your results would have been fruitless because based on the nursing site, the nursing orientation already happened and all and the 40 who got in are already set for.

And honestly, regarding the whole "I received no assistance with advising upon starting at this university. No one was willing to meet up with me." I find this rather unbelievable considering advisers are always open. Then again, I am not a transfer student so it might be different though I feel like it should be the same. However for pre-nursing, I received advising but not with an actual nursing adviser since they're for the people within the program already. I did get plenty of help though with the general university advisers when I made appointments and all. I'm guessing people may have different experiences with the advising but I haven't really heard of a complaint til now...

I'm sorry if bringing up those points seem insensitive due to your situation but I was a bit like "???" when I read those and wanted more clarification I guess.

Hello everyone,

How long did the FBI background check take? I have been waiting for weeks and still no update. Thanks!
