It's me! I hope you are all hanging in there! I am doing my best to advocate on this end. I know how much this means to each of you.

I also know that quite a few of you will be disappointed at the same time that others are delighted. For those of you who are disappointed, I don't know if the kind of individual counseling will be available to those who do not get in this year as it has been in the past. It quite well may be. But, I wanted to take the time to tell you a couple of things to keep in mind.

First, the fact that FAU can only admit a limited number of students is a function of the funding provided by the legislature. It is not a reflection of you and your talents. It is a simple fact that seats are limited. Don't let that stop your dream of becoming a nurse.

We all want to find meaning in why we didn't get accepted. In general, none of us know why these things happen. You work with all of your heart for something and you get disappointed. But, I choose to believe that there is a reason for it all. It is not readily apparent when you are in the midst of heartache but, believe me, it will be revealed to you at some point. You never know. It could be that you will meet someone who is to be your life mate in the year that you wait. Or, you will save someone's life in the class you will repeat. Last year someone completely found what she wants to do with her career in the "in between" time.

One reason we went to Nursing CAS is to facilitate enrollment of qualified applicants in high quality nursing programs. Since you are already in CAS, you have access to other available programs around the country, if you are interested. We need nurses. So, you have a variety of options.

1. You can look at other programs, but look at the quality programs and avoid the expensive ones if you can.

2. You can retake courses with low grades (those with less than a B). Remember that you can only take them at a state university.

You cannot repeat courses at the state colleges.

3. If you are an FAU pre-nursing student you can complete a major and apply next year to the Accelerated program.

4. Or, you can hold steady and reapply next time.

Whatever the e-mail decision says for you and whatever you decide to do in response, remember that life is messy and it is challenging. We all have obstacles and must work to get over them. But, it is the quality of our character that is revealed in how we respond to disappointment and how we choose to grow from it.

You are much more than what one e-mail reveals. You are strong and intelligent men and women. One numbers decision does not determine your future. Please don't give up your dream.

Sincerely

Dr. Dormire

Dr. Dormire it's your actions of going out of your way and updating us on this site and your kind words of encouragement that give so much more meaning and value to the school of nursing at FAU!! If I don't get in the only thing I would regret is not having the opportunity to learn from such great caring individuals such as yourself!!!

Guys I got this Email at 10:51 PM 2/13/2014 .. . . . I hope we all see some more interview emails sent out to people on this forum first and then people elsewhere after =) !!! BTW it was sent to my personal email and not FAU.

I am pleased to inform you that your application is being moved forward to the interview phase of the admission process based upon the recommendation of the Undergraduate Program Committee of the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing, Florida Atlantic University.

Your interview is scheduled for Friday, February 21st at 1:00 pm. Please arrive 30 minutes before this time as you will need to register and complete some paperwork. Registration will be in NU116 at the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing. Please bring with you verification of the courses you are currently enrolled.

Due to the large number of scheduled interviews, we will not be able to change the time of your interview. If you do not attend the interview, your application will be removed from the pool of applicants.

We’re looking forward to meeting you!

Sincerely,

Nancey E.M. France, RN, PhD

Thank you Dr. Dormire for taking the time to prepare us for the admission decission. I just wanted to say that for some of us, following a nursing career comes with tremendous efforts that cannot be quantified in words. For some of us these efforts can be measured in days of unfulfilled family duties, in inimaginable financial efforts and in health related efforts. We will all follow our dreams of course, and it is going to be very frustrating to say the least to see all of the above mentioned efforts ruined by an impersonal refusal email. You say that FAU criteria are very demanding as the program is highly competitive. I agree, but for all the reasons mentioned before I think we are entitled to an explanation on what to improve in order to maximize our chance of getting accepted next time. Besides, I would also like to highlight that some of us might be sure that nursing is the career we want to follow, and to prove our determination an interview would have been proper before admission. Such an effort from your part would help find the people who decide in the middle of the program that nursing is not for them. This will also help these people have this revelation before going that far into the program. I know you are still changing the program and the admission criteria, but experience in a health care setting should also be looked upon as a strenghth for the program besides the "quantitative" data you take into consideration already. Nursing is all about precision it is true, but it is also about the ability to "care" for people and to be able to help them too in numerous other ways. Thank you again for giving us an insider's view on the admission process at FAU.

Wow congratulations boo....I'm sure you more than deserve it.... Keep up the food work

Since she said we should all get an email around the same time, is it right to assume that if we haven't gotten an email by now, than most likely we didn't get accepted???
