Fastest way to part-time education?

Published

Hi - I already have a BS in a non-nursing subject and I have to work full-time 9-5. Knowing this, is there a path to become an RN part time (via night school and/or weekend clinicals). If so, what is the fastest path to do this (associates at a CC?). Please advise. Thanks.

I am not sure what part of the country you are in but I would call your State Board of Nursing for a list of schools, to locate online or evening programs, specially designed for non-nurse baccalaureat programs or bridge programs. You may even contact your state BON online to see what is available in your state.

Hope this helps! Good luck in your nursing endeavors. It is truly a great field to be in!

I was also in your situation but am lucky enough to be at a job that was able to manipulate my schedule. I received a BS in Education. I also searched but was unable to locate any schools that provided night nursing classes and weekend clinicals. Most schools offer prerequisites at night but no nursing major classes. I wind up completing all of my prerequisites at a local community college and then applied to an ASN/RN degree program leaving me to only take 1 nursing class a semester which works out well as I will still graduate and can take the NCLEX-RN. You may want to go that route so that you will not be bogged down with classes and work.Good luck with your search. Let me know if you find any because after my ASN degree is complete I am looking to enter and RN-BSN or RN-MSN degree program.

thanks - taking one class per semester, how long will it take you to complete the ASN/RN?

You'd be hard pressed to find a nursing program that lets you take 1 class per semester. Even part-time programs are rare.

I am beginning this semester and it is 5 semesters including 1 summer. It is only one class a semester because I have previously completed all of the core curriculum and prerequisite classes.
