Falls

Nurses General Nursing

I worked at a retirement home for 18 years. I was since terminated. One of the reasons is that I had two falls happen at the same time and apparently didn’t handle it up to standards. I quickly assessed one woman and moved her and got her up. I then brought her to her room for further assessment by which I saw a cut on her head. I then sent her out to the hospital. I didn’t get a chance to take her BP or do a neuro assessment. I moved her and got her up without doing them first. Would you say that was negligent? I sent her to the hospital where they could do all the tests?

When I hear that seniors there are asking about me then I know I have been a good nurse! When they wonder where I went and why I am not there anymore then I know! I have had someone say to me “I feel safe when you are here”. Or another that said “management is probably jealous that you could prob run the place better”. That’s when I know! Lol

I don't really have any good advice for you I guess. All I can really say is good luck to you, I do hope you prevail and get your job back.

Now for the advice part that you probably won't much like. It sounds like this manager for whatever reason is out to get you. If you do win your appeal and get your job back as difficult as moving on after 18 years would be I suggest immediately looking for another job since it's almost always easier finding a job when you already have a job. Plus you can look for that job without the termination on your work history. Even if you get that job back you'll always be locking over your shoulder waiting for another discipline to drop and that manager will always be looking for another reason to get rid of you. Sure doesn't sound like that would be a comfortable place to be!

People keep telling me exactly what you are saying here. It’s just a matter of trying to convince me of it! It all makes a lot of sense but...

Hopefully I get one of those moments of omg what the heck are you doing! But for now maybe I will take the advice of looking for another job!
