Fall 2014- Traditional BSN

Published

I was just accepted to UTA as a student and just filled out the application for the traditional BSN program. I'm kind of worried that my stats might not be so great and wanted to see if anyone else has applied?

3.5 Science GPA

3.66 Overall

92 HESI

I am not partnered and I hadn't heard about that before I was on this site. I work full time in a non healthcare field.

I still need to take the three prerequisite classes (Pharmacology, Pathophysiologic Processes, Intro to Professional Nursing) at UTA, as well as Technical Writing, American History I, Texas Government, and College Algebra which should raise my overall GPA.

Any advice/ anyone else applying for Fall 2014?

Did anyone at the info session ask how many were waitlisted?

I was the only one there... but if they only ranked 344 of the 419 qualified, I was just assuming that the remaining 204 are somewhere too... But that would mean they only denied 75, and kept 204 of waiting..? I have no idea. LOL I just asked her if the top 140 applicants were taken from the ranked categories, and she said yes.

Oh. To me it seems like they wouldn't waitlist 200 people. But I guess we'll never know...unfortunately. lol

I know- it doesn't make sense to me either! You might e-mail her. She was very nice! I got those numbers from e-mailing her, as I didn't think to ask at the info session.

im sure she wont tell the number of waitlisted people. when was the info session and how did you hear about it?

It was in the e-mail that told us we were wait listed. It was last Thursday

Did she go into detail at all about the ranking process?

No, lol. She really didn't say much at all. She asked me about my stats, and said that it was good that I have been at UTA since I was a freshman. She said those considerations "artificially inflate" my GPAs, but "we don't tell you how much." Which I think is fair, because I could've went to a community college in my hometown and made all A's, and not learned half the things I have at UTA, even though I made some B's. Anyway, she said that being on the list is a good thing, and that more people drop their acceptance than we realize... She said "people move, people get pregnant, I've heard it all!" Lol. Actually, this past class of J1s only have 118 (vs. the normal 120) in their program. She said they actually started calling people that had initially gotten denied.

That sounds promising for the waitlisted people. Good luck to you!

She also said that the first round of calls would go out in early May. She sort of put an emphasis on the fact that a lot of times people get accepted and are currently taking pharm & patho, or have to complete it during the summer, then they don't pass it. My guess is that a bunch of people with 4.0s get in from community colleges and haven't taken something as difficult... Also, she said that sometimes people are lazy and just straight up don't do their background checks... and that if you're wait listed and already have that process done then you could potentially get that spot.

I should clarify about the above comment: The J1s don't have 118 because the deans like ran out of people to call; they DID end up having to contact people that were denied at first; but then 2 people did not show up for orientation.

Trying to be positive about the situation. It just stinks to have to keep on waiting. Thanks! :)

I'm one of those people who has to take patho this summer. ;)

Just finished Pharm a couple of weeks ago.

Everything you just said is true though. Some people don't pass background checks. I've read on these forums where someone had a shoplifting charge, another had a DUI. I'm sure you have a pretty good chance.
