2020 FALL QCC(queensborough) program

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I'll applied to the A.A.S nursing program at QCC for the fall day program.

I'm sure everyone who is applying knows the PAX exam is not required due to covid-19..

This was a huge blow to me because I am a good test taker and I taught highschool reading and math for a few years now(SAT/ACT). However, I do have a 4.0 in all my nursing pre-reqs(including A&P2, Psych 220, and ENG 102). I will be taking micro this Summer.

To those of you applied or planning on it, what are your stats?

To those who backed out of applying bc of covid, what are your plans moving forward?

I also want to use this thread to discuss any questions regarding the program and the whole application process for others.

How did people double and triple up on sciences the sciences you need are pre req to another?

For example, you can take A&P 1 with gen chem 1 and gen bio 1. Second semester you can take A&P 2 with gen chem 2 and gen bio 2. If you are going for your BSN most schools require chem and bio on top of A&P. Third semester you can take micro with patho and organic chem. It's not just about getting a A.A.S to them. They want to see if you're looking at the bigger picture. Plus people drop out like flies in the program because they can't handle the work. If you could handle 2-3 science at the same time with A's it's a good sign.

Yeah that def depends on the school you want to goto for your bachelors.

who is your micro teacher

Good evening to all,

I ran across this thread after also searching allnurses like so many of you for information. Few things id like to address,I as well am upset about the pax scores not being required because I did take the pax exam last semester after spending my entire Summer studying for it and scored well above QCCs benchmark, however I did not apply last semester because I did not want to start nursing school without having micro under my belt. I took micro this past semester (Spring 2020) and got an A! Thank god because it was very challenging with the distance learning aspect. I too like all of you applied this semester for the nursing program at QCC with a prerequisite GPA of 4.0 and an overall GPA of 3.9 , I do not have any prior degrees, nor did I double or triple up on any of my sciences. My main goal throughout this entire journey has been to protect my GPA and remain a viable candidate for their program and my BSN school of choice, I am a working adult like so many of you and double/ tripling sciences is suicide to your GPA, if you do not have the time to cater to studying for all of these classes id highly recommend against it. When I applied I had ap1/2,psych1/2,eng1/2,MA119,medical ethics, sociology, speech, and philosophy completed. I had Microbiology, history, and anthropology pending for Spring 2020, and I had chem and stats pending for Summer of 2020 (which I am currently completing).I took all of the extra classes listed because Downstate is my school of choice for the RN-BSN degree and Downstate requires them as do so many others (remember you want to look well rounded on paper always!). I too like you was interviewed in a group interview and the professors that conducted my interview were very pleasant and reinstated to me why this is my school of choice. How the interviews were chosen however I cannot speak on because I also know a girl in my Microbiology class that had a GPA of 3.4 and landed an interview. The only thing that I can maybe think of is maybe Microbiology was weighed (it was also emphasized on the interview)? I have also called the nursing department several times (the last time I called them was today) and they told me that interviews are now coming to an end (which means they were in fact still conducting interviews) and decisions would be going out at the end of June. I too like so many of you have the strong desire to become a nurse and this pandemic has only made it stronger. I wish all of you luck on your journey, to those of you waiting for a decision (good luck) I know how anxiety inducing it is because im living it as well, and to those of you who didn't hear anything, please dont give up! The world needs caring and compassionate nurses on the field. I have spent years on allnurses reading and obsessing and I feel anyone who is serious about nursing hangs out here (hahaha). Good luck guys ! I hope I was somewhat helpful!

Hi,

Is there anyone else that's still waiting on the nursing department to contact you about an interview? I put in my application on 4/24 and I still haven't heard back. Whenever I call the department, they keep saying that they're backed up and that I'm on the list but...from what I'm reading a lot of you have done the interview already...

@ssolssol I know that interviews are still being conducted so dont lose hope girl! if you dont mind sharing what is your GPA?, and have you taken micro? It seemed to be a heavy point on my interview.

@Leosmom1206 I definitely took micro and GPA overall or just for the pre-reqs?

@ssolssol both if you dont mind sharing, and honestly I dont see why you wouldnt get an interview if youve completed all of your sciences, so you may just get it soon.

@Leosmom1206 GPA for my pre-reqs stand at about 3.5. my overall GPA is 3.1!

@ssolssol their benchmark is 3.0 , so im assuming they have to interview everyone with above a 3.0, so I wouldnt lose hope just yet! good luck girl! I know its all so anxiety inducing!

@Leosmom1206 thank you for that encouragement? def needed it

@ssolssol haha girl, im a wreck! we're all def in this together!
