Fall 2014 lonestar north harris nursing students

Published

I thought I would start a thread for those of us who have been accepted and are attending NH in July! I am soooo excited to get started! I will be attending the May 15th orientation. Let's all help and encourage each other as we start this crazy journey!

After those three weeks (which still isn't that time all day everyday), You will be divided into groups. Then you will have lecture Monday and Tuesday then clinical will be either Wednesday or Thursday. Unless your class will be starting some new schedule we don't know about yet. Hopes that helps.

Ith1123 I see your in your 2nd year of Nursing at North Harris, how was your first year? Do you mind sharing how you studied, the amount of time it took, and any advice you might have?

After orientation can we register for the classes on our own? I know at the LVN orientation they told us we had to go to the registrar's office.

The nursing program is different from prerequisite classes. I study everyday. If it's only for a couple of hours, but you need way more than that most days if you want good grades and don't want to ride the line. First semester is busy because the learning style and preparation for tests are different from what you were use to. You will have to manage your time wisely. I am doing well in the program, but it is false to tell you that is has been easy to maintain the same A/B average I held before entering. I suggest get rest now. I know you are all so excited now, but spend time with friends and family. It only gets tougher. Second semester has been a killer! But you can survive, you just may think you going to go crazy! Lol! Get a good study buddy! There are rarely any questions that are based on knowledge, it's all application. Hope that helps. Feel free to ask me anything. Congrats to you all again!!!

I know I have seen that there are tests on Friday? And I was wondering what we could expect from our clinicals the first semester?

So I was looking at the course description for the clinicals on my lonestar and it says the clinical is from 6:45 to 5 pm?

Is it true we can wear whatever color scrubs to labs? And what will our clinical color scrubs be?

Hi, I posted this in another forum but now that I found this one thought I would share my information here, I too got accepted at North Harris (11.1). I was reading the previous messages to get caught up and noticed that some people started the process for the background check (fingerprinting). I thought I would let you know that I called the nursing department earlier this week and to ask if I could/should start the background now and she told me that unless I needed to submit a D.O. that I should NOT start/do anything until I receive the next email with more information (as stated in the acceptance letter). She said that I should only do the items that all the information was given for and not those that state more information will be sent so I do it correctly (they way they want it done.

I hope this helps and I will be at the May 15th orientation.

I have a friend that graduated a few years ago and he said that you wear your clinical scrubs to lab. If they haven't changed he said the colors are white top and teal bottoms with white shoes (no clogs).

I wonder when they are going to send us the additional information that they talked about in the first email. I'm so impatient! I really want to enjoy summer and relaxing while I can but I am so ready to get started!

Same here after I do my finger prints next week I'm going to call the nurse director to see what I need to do.

Also several of us have started a closed group on fb for NH students if anyone is interested.
