Fall 2010 Lonestar ADN Hopefuls

Published

Hey everybody! I just wanted to start a thread where all of us who are beginning the stressful process of worrying over Lonestar admissions can give each other some support!:yeah: I'm planning on applying to LSC-Montgomery - retaking Psych 2301 in a Second 8 Weeks class to get an*A,* and getting ready to take the HESI in November when Moco's testing opens. I'm freaking out over how much is on the line...must make an *A!* Must blow HESI out of the water!!!!!

Anyway, just wanted to say good luck to everyone as their finishing up their prereqs and preparing for the HESI and ask...

LoneStar hopefuls...WHERE YOU AT?!! :heartbeat

Totally freaking out, didn't realize you had to pay for the drug test last week, i payed monday morning, does anyone know if that will keep me from stating i know they are pretty strict, please let me know if any one knows!!!!!!!!!!!![/quote

Really? I haven't heard of any news regarding drug testing. I just took a glance at my acceptance latter again and all it said was to turn the paperwork in and get the background check. It also stated that they will go over the physical and a few other things during the orientation. I figured this is when/where they will go over drug screening along with the other things. Am I lost or misinformed?

Don't worry about the drug test, you'll be fine! I went to the June 2nd orientation and there were several people that paid for it while we were waiting in line to do the drug test.

Do you happen to remember how much the drug test cost so i can bring some cash with me ICOE.

Thanks

Yes, it was $45.31. I think you can pay for it online if that's easier.

Hi, I am new here, and I am not a fall 2010 hopeful, but rather just starting the whole process. I have a question for those of you who have already gone through the whole application process. I have a bachelors degree from years ago. I spoke to an advisor in the transfer dept yesterday and he told me that I have all of my pre-reqs, except for - Psyc2314, Kine1111, and all three Biology classes. Here is my dilemma----I received a B+ in my Eng & Psych way back in my freshman year of college (1988). Since those two grades factor into the GPA for points along with the BIOL, should I retake those two classes to get A's?? I am confident that I would get A's---I took both of those classes 22 years ago when I was 18! I just don't want to bother taking then again if it won't be necessary. But from what I've heard and read on here, you really do need A's to have enough points to be accepted. Is there anyone in the nursing dept that can answer this for me? The advisor I spoke to didn't think it would be necessary to retake them---his exact words--"oh, you got good grades so don't worry"....but that is not what I'm gathering from reading on here! If anyone has experienced this same situation, I would love to hear from you! Also, is the acceptance process based solely on your score?? In other words, do they look at each applicant individually and evaluate them on other factors rather than the score, or do they just line up the numbers and take the top ones?? Thanks for your input. I've enjoyed reading on here and learning lots of good info!!

As far as i k know, acceptance is based on score only. As for retaking the class to turn it into a A to raise your score, that all depends on how well you do on the hesi. If you can kick butt in the English portion, than you might not have to. The goal you really want to shoot for is a 11.5 or somewhere really close to that. i think the difference between a B and A is .200 points or something around there.

If i had a Batchlors, i would take the prereqs (psyc, bio, engl) if i needed them, and apply at a 4 year nursing program as my primary goal and apply to the CC for my secondary goal. But then again, this is just me.

Is anyone on here starting the new One Day A Week program in the fall for Lonestar NH?

I heard that they didn't have enough people to apply to it so they're not doing it.

Did everyone turn in their paperwork? I went Monday to turn it all in, but I was told that I had to have titers even though I've had the immunizations and have doctor's signature and proof of them. Anyone else told this?

I turned all my paperwork in Monday afternoon. No, i was not told to get a titer done. Did you get a false reaction tot he TB test? I think that is when you need to get a titer. Anyhow, the lady that gave the pp at orientation was the one that took all my paperwork. As far as I know, I was good to go. And no, they do not have/know when the medical insurance will be ready. They have yet to hear from them.

The TB was not an issue. It was the immunizations. After going back to the doctor and having the titers run, she ended up telling me that all she needed was the Varicella. I had the paper work on that, but she wanted a number. Not just positive or negative like mine had. Hope my insurance pays for all of those unnecessary titers I did b/c it's about $300 worth. Costly mistake/wrong info from the same person that sends us email updates.

Im in the same boat as a few of you are as well. I have been trying to get into a nursing program for quite some time now. I was able to raise my B's in english and psychology to A's, and have decided to retake A&P 2 over to get an A. I used to think B's were great, up until I realized they don't get you anywhere when trying to apply to Nursing school. I have an Associate of Science degree from Lone Star Cy-Fair which puts my credit hours up there so I get the 4 points for that. I did take the HESI, blind, as well and scored an 82 on the reading and 93 on the math. I do plan to retake that when it opens up in January. I went out on a limb and also applied to UT Houston, since they include an interview. I found this thread and thought I would jump on! We all need all the support and encouragement that we can get. I am beginning to feel discourage and starting to question if it's even worth all this effort and money. But, then I remember I love my job and would love to have a career as a Registered Nurse. :nurse: Hope to hear from some of ya'll soon.
