Fall 2010 entrance for Los Angeles County College of Nursing

Hi!!! Im trying to start this thread for Fall 2010 student who applied to Los Angeles County College of Nursing and Allied Health!!

i applied and just wanted to know if anyone else was in the same boat as me! im dying to get a response! Hope someone responds!!

Hey tokidiko,

i thought the vocab was ALITTLE bit hard but not tooo bad..there were a few words i didnt know at all but i was just choosing my answers on simple things like if i didnt know the meaning of the word i would just try to break it up into root words and meanings and apparently i did fine lol dont stress it trust me.

SO HAPPY YOU STARTED THIS DISCUSSION THREAD! :)

I TOOK THE ENTRANCE EXAM ON 3/13 AND WAS CAUGHT A LITTLE OFF GUARD. IT WASN'T EASY WHILE IT WASN'T 'HARD' EITHER, IF THAT MAKES SENSE.

I AM HOPING AND PRAYING TO GET INTO THE LVN-RN PROGRAM WHICH STARTS THIS SUMMER (JUNE 2010). HOW ABOUT YOU? DO YOU KNOW ABOUT HOW MANY STUDENTS THEY TAKE FOR THE 'STRAIGHT-TO-RN' PROGRAM AS WELL AS THE 'BRIDGE'? JUST WONDERING WHAT THE COMPETITION IS LIKE FOR BOTH PROGRAMS. :confused: HEHE... (I HEARD ANYWHERE BETWEEN 25-35 FOR THE BRIDGE ???)

I'M REALLY NERVOUS. :crying2: IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY, THEY SAID RESULTS WILL BE KNOWN/MAILED EARLY/MID APRIL. KEEPING MY FINGERS CROSSED!

:grpwlcm:Welcome to the thread loll ya i applied to county for the spring entry and didnt get in but had alot of support from people here so i thought id start one for us who are re-applying and applying for the first time! And plus everyone is going through the sammme thing as you so its cool to have someone to talk to!! I try to talk to my boyrfriend about some stuff and he's 100% supportive but i know he doesnt 100% understand lol so its cool to talk to new people who youll HOPEFULLY end up in school with but anyywayyyyys I see your trying to get into the LVN-RN program! Congrats on even being an LVN loll for me im trying to do the straight to RN program and im sooooooo nervous and anxious to find out if im in or not!!!! im not sure about the competition between the two programs but from what ive heard about the straight to rn program is that there were 400+ applicants (i think there are more applicants) and only 25 get chosen!! if i get rejected twice omg!!!!!!! im going to go crazy!!!!!!!! :sstrs: i hope we get our letters soon!!! on the actual website it says acceptance letters should go out in May but another person i was talking to on another thread i started said they were sending them out already because he knows people who have been rejected already and yet another person said they told him we wouldnt know till JUNE! either way the wait is KILLING me!!! And as for the entrance exam i remember when i took it last application period i totally felt the exact same way you do right now.. it wasnt easy but it wasnt "HARD" either! i was really worried because i flew by some of the sections but on others i took up until the last second to finish! but apparently i did fine cuz i passed with 13+ on each section. so dont worry im sure you did fine!! I'm just curious, how many points did you have the first time you didn't get in? And how many points do you have now? I'll be appling for Jan 2011

Hey creative!

I applied for the Spring 2010 entry and i only had 76 points and they accepted only those with 79 and above. So i retook some classes during a short winter session and made it within the deadline to apply for this fall so now i have 81 points but because this is my second time applying i also get an extra point so technically i have 82 points now.. but still im worried because theres afew people who have way more than me and if there only choosing 25 to enter the program i can only imagine how high its going to be this time. We'll see what happens!! Hope i helped!

ILIANA - THANKS FOR THE REPLY. I HEARD THE COMPETITION WASN'T AS FIERCE AS IT IS NOW. OF COURSE, AS MORE AND MORE TIME PASSES, THE MORE AND MORE STUDENTS HEAR ABOUT LA COUNTY'S SCHOOL OF NURSING. IT USED TO BE THAT JUST MEETING THE REQUIREMENTS WAS ENOUGH TO GET IN. BUT NOW AS MORE PEOPLE LEARN ABOUT THEM, THEY'RE GETTING HUNDREDS OF APPS (400 LIKE YOU SAID!!!) THUS THE DREADED 'POINT SYSTEM' - YIKES! I WOULDN'T DOUBT IT BECAUSE THE DAY I TOOK MINE (3/13), THERE WERE ABOUT 55 EXAMNINEES WHICH TOTALLY BLEW MY MIND. HONESTLY, I WAS EXPECTING LIKE... 10? :D I MET ONE OTHER PERSON WHO WAS THERE FOR THE BRIDGE PROGRAM LIKE I WAS. IT SEEMED LIKE THE MAJORITY THAT WAS THERE WAS FOR THE 'STRAIGHT' PROGRAM. I'M SURE YOU'LL GET IN! YOU SHOULD GET FIRST DIBS SINCE YOU'RE ALREADY IN THEIR SYSTEM (YOU SHOULD GET PRIORITY :)), BESIDES YOU PASSED THE ENTRANCE EXAM, SO KUDOS TO THAT! REGARDING THE ACCEPTANCE LETTERS, I THINK IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHEN YOU TOOK THE EXAM AND MAYBE WHICH PROGRAM IT'S FOR. THE PROCTOR FOR OUR EXAM SAID APRIL. AND INSTRUCTED US UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE TO EVER CALL THEIR OFFICE ASKING FOR OUR RESULTS. :crying2: HEHE... SHE SAID TO JUST WAIT AND BE PATIENT.

HOPEFULLY WE'LL BOTH GET IN TO OUR PROGRAMS!! lol i cant believe how much the points have gone up since just last year! the jump of 5 points from spring 09 to fall 09 is crazy! but if the jump between spring 2010 and fall 2010 is also 5 points i wont make it!!! uhhhhhhhh my goodness! im soooooo stressing out!!!

I KNOW :crying2: IT IS PRETTY DRASTIC, QUITE UNNERVING REALLY! MIND YOU, IT'S ONLY THE AVERAGE THOUGH SO IF YOU'RE RIIIIIGHT AROUND THERE (GIVE OR TAKE A FEW POINTS), YOU SHOULD TOTALLY BE OKAY.

CAN I ASK HOW LONG AFTER YOU TOOK THE ENTRANCE EXAM DID YOU GET YOUR RESULTS? DID IT TAKE A MONTH?

I'M A LITTLE WORRIED ACTUALLY BECAUSE THOUGH I HAVE MY PRE-REQS COMPLETED (THE 3 MAJOR SCIENCES PLUS ENG 101), IF THEY WILL BASE ACCEPTANCE ON THE 'POINT SYSTEM', I'LL GET POINTS FOR ALL (IE SOCIOLOGY, PSYCHOLOGY, PHILISOPHY, ETC.) EXCEPT SPEECH 1! I HAVE SPEECH 5 WHICH SANTA MONICA COLLEGE REQUIRES BUT NOW THAT I'M EXPANDING MY OPTIONS, I'M LEARNING THAT MORE AND MORE SCHOOLS WANT YOU TO HAVE SPEECH 1 NOT SPEECH 5! I'M AFRAID I'LL GET A 'ZERO' FOR THIS (REMEMBER: A=3, B=2 AND C=1). I'M TAKING IT THIS MID-APRIL THOUGH BUT IT'LL TOO LATE TO SUBMIT. OH BOOOYYYY...

Hopefully we'll both be okay but as to your question.. i took my entrance exam last year i wanna say around october and let me tell you.. TO THIS DAY i still havent received my results!!! They told me it would take 4 weeks to receive and 4 weeks went by...5 weeks went by i called and everyone kept saying JUST WAIT IT OUT WE ALREADY SENT THEM OR WE'RE GONNA SEND THEM SOON...6 weeks went and even 7 so i just said eff this imma just go in and ask myself!!!! so i drove down there and requested the results right then and there and i finally got the results which said i passed.. but like i said to this day i havent received anything lol so if you dont get them in the time frame they said you might have to be pushy!

And as for your situation with the speech class i REALLy dont think you have to worry at all because realistically its only worth MOST 3 points! But if it really does bother you i say you just call tomorrow or whenever you can and just say that even though it is past deadlines you want to make sure they received all your classes and talk to them and see if theyll accept it! see if its equivalent to speech 5! you never know!!

Hey, I just attended an info session for county today, and I was wondering if you guys who applied for Fall 2010 have heard anything yet? The counselor said that the cut off for Spring was 76 points, so i was just trying to get an idea of what the cut off was for Fall. I am applying for Spring with 80 points, if TEAS goes well...

Pretty much all of us have applied for the Fall 2010 entry and no one has heard anything =[ thats why im soo stressed. And actually the cut off for this past spring (january 2010 entry) was 79 and the cut off for last fall (september entry 09) was 76. Im sure trust me i applied for this past spring the january entry and had 76 points but the cut off was 79 thats why i applied again this time around with afew more points for the fall entry instead. I hope the cut off stays at 79 but i have a feeling it wont =[ either way goodluck in applying for spring! and well let you know once we find out what the cut off is.
