Would it be possible to apply to a nursing school if I am still in the process of completing pre-req's for pre-admission, and they won't be completed until past the admission deadline?
I want to apply to either Nassau Community College (where I'm currently taking the classes as a transfer student) or Queensborough for the Fall of 2008.
Thank you for your time.

It really depends on the school. Some will allow you to begin the nursing program while you still complete your pre-reqs. In the school I went to, we had a few girls straight from high school that were taking all of the pre-reqs while taking the nursing courses. Of course, this makes it a lot harder, but it's possible.
Best of luck
P.S..I went to Saint Vincents Catholic Medical Center.
They have two nursing programs: one in staten island and I believe the other one is in queens. The passing grade is an 80, which is a bit higher than most schools but it IS a good school.

I would call both schools and ask if it would be possible

It depends on the school. Some ADN schools will accept you if you've taken AP1 & 2 and will allow you to take micro, nutrition & other pre-reqs while you are in the program. Your best bet is to either call the school or look on their website for me info.

Hi Mary. You can check Nassau Community College's website and you will find the information there. When I applied, I had A&P 1 and 2, Eng 101, Math, Child Psychology, Sociology, that was the minimum requirement. But, please check the site to see if I missed out on anything. The pre-reqs must be completed (meaning already on your transcript) at the time you are handing in your application.
Acceptance is based on GPA plus the number of credits you have. For instance, I had 48 credits from a previous college. If you and I have the same GPA, but you have 12 credits, I would have priority. I think the required GPA is 3.0 but many students I know have a 3.5 or above.
I hope this makes sense. Good luck!:balloons:

Are the credits from St. Vincent Catholic Medical Center transferrable toward a BSN degree elsewhere later on? Do their graduates have a good chance of finding employment (particularly at hospitals)? Both Adelphi & Molloy College had already told me that they wouldn't accept any credits from there. I'm in the process of applying to ASN and BSN programs (wherever I get accepted into first). Anyone with info. on St. Vincent can answer this.
