Fall 2017 Applicants

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello Everyone!

(I posted this in the Kansas Nursing Forum and I haven't received any responses so I thought I would post here)

Okay let me start off with some background. I applied to KU (University of Kansas) SON last year (I was kind of dumb and only applied to KU, therefore putting all of my eggs in one basket) for Fall 2016 and was put on the waitlist at #30. I have two associate degrees and a cumulative GPA of roughly 3.7. I also have a 30 composite, 29 science on my ACT score as well as my CNA license. This application cycle I have applied to KU (again), Washburn, Baker, Saint Luke's, JCCC (Johnson County Community College) and will be applying to KCKCC (Kansas City Kansas Community College) as well as Neosho County.

I guess I just am looking for people like myself who maybe didn't get accepted the first time around or have a GPA similar to mine. I know by reading a lot of the posts on here there are quite a few people who go into nursing school with a 4.0, but there has to be people out there who have gotten in with GPA's lower than that right? I've spoken to academic counselors at JCCC and they said I would be a very competitive candidate, but it's just frustrating because I don't feel that a 3.7 is a low GPA and I honestly want nothing more than to become a nurse, something I have wanted to do since I was a little girl. I'd also like to hear from other people who are applying to nursing school for next fall so I know I'm not alone in worrying about whether I'll get in or not. The months waiting in between applications and acceptance is excruciating.

Thanks in advance for any advice, encouragement or support you can provide!

Hello,

I applied too but no news yet! :arghh:

I have been accepted to Washburn and Baker, and I am on the stand-by list at Saint Luke's. All in all, this application cycle was MUCH better than last years. Lesson most definitely learned.

Congratulations to you! I also applied to Saint Luke's and I am on their waiting list, these are the only two schools that I applied to. I hope I can get into one.

Where is the other school you applied to?

JCCC but I have heard that is a very hard to get in. I have a 3.76 GPA but my ACT score was awful, 20 composite and 21 science.

Yeah I have heard JCCC is super hard too. They are actually my first choice if I am accepted. I'm hoping my ACT helps since my GPA is only a 3.71 but who knows. Hopefully we hear from them this week sometime, the website said middle of March so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I applied to JCCC for the Fall 2017. Have any of you heard back?

I only applied to Saint Lukes and I'm #14 on the waitlist, so lets hope the odds are in my favor! Good luck to everyone!

To the ones who applied to JCCC, I called admissions today and the lady said that they will start sending out letters this week.

No I still haven't heard from JCCC. They are my first choice school so I would love to hear from them soon!

I just received a call and I have been accepted to Saint Lukes for the fall. Good luck to all you guys!
