Hello everyone!! I am applying for the Fall ADN program at ICC this year. I have spent the last year working hard on my pre-reqs and all of the "non" nursing classes. I've managed to keep a 4.0 in the process and join Phi Theta Kappa...my only problem my ACT....I'm scared it is fixing to haunt me! I've only taken it once, and I made a 20 on it. Like most people trying to get into the program I have a lot at stake...I guess I need reassurance? I applied to NWCC and was rejected...I made 60% on the NET, 4.0, and the 20 on ACT...Although ICC has always been my first and for most choice, I felt like such a loser...being rejected is a hard blow when you know that you have tried and worked so hard...Anyway, I was wondering maybe for those of you who have been accepted, what were your scores upon acceptance? thanks for your insight!

you are like me i was so scared that my act score was goin to put me behind..but it didnt i got accepted to jcjc....my gpa is 4.0, act is 18, and i have all my courses taken except for micro, speech, and psychology. i really think that gpa is a much bigger deal then act score. i took my act when i was in the 10th grade and i never retook it but i got in so i am super excited...good luck i think you will do just fine....i also applied last semester just for the extra points because you get 5 points every time you get wait listed
Hey! thanks for the reply...those are actually the same classes that I have left to take! we have just learned what our averages are going into the finals (the week after next) I have 100.6 in A&P Lecture and 99 in Lab...100 AVG in College Algebra...and 99 in Human Growth...so I've done alright this semester...I only took 4 classes, as I take them at night (I work full-time right now) thanks for the encouragement!

Congrats you 2!! I'm just finishing up my 1st semester in the ADN @ JCJC. Let me know if you have any questions!
i got accepted for this fall semester at jcjc...i have to make an appt today for an interview..i dont really know what to expect and i want to start buying stuff but i really dont know what to get yet...i just bought my stethoscope and bp cuff..ive been practicing on everybody that walks through my door..lol OH YEA about these sponge baths do you get naked or what?? ive heard so many different stories?
Don't buy too much just yet. They have specific things they want you to get. You'll have to have ALL WHITE shoes. The only thing they'll except with any color is the NurseMate shoes with the little blue heart. Black pens are something you'll need. They'll only allow you to use black at the hospital. LOTS of PAPER!!! Get ready to work out hand cramps!! Lots and lots of notes. You'll get a list of books to buy. I went to the book store on campus and get the ISBN #'s - write them down. Then I went to 1/2.com and bought them for $250 less than the book store! As far as the baths and stuff, ladies in one lab, men in the other. You strip down to your underwear. It's not a big deal. One thing I would encourage you to do is go to the school website, adn program and download the SCRMC safety module. Start reading now. It's alot to comprehend, but it isn't too bad. You'll be tested on it. If you make below an 80, you cannot go to the hospital for clinicals. They'll give you several chances to retake, but learn it now, take it once and don't have to worry about it anymore. Let me know if you want to know more and maybe I can help you out some more!
thanks for all the info... i do have another question about having to be fulltime...im playing on taking psychology along with nursing 1 to be fulltime. in my fall handbook it says nursing classes end at 11 but in my letter it says not to schedule other classes until after 1pm...do you know why this is?? i have 2 small kids and i need to get home asap and i dont want to be at school all day!
Sometimes class runs long. Also, they give tests back to review after class and that can take anywere from 10 - 30 minutes. You'll get use to getting out close to 12:00 most days. It just depends on what's going on that day.
yeah i guess that makes since....how have your grades compared to your pre req grades
Well, I had an A to begin with, now I'm happy with a C. Like someone else told me A, B, or C = RN. Be prepared, you're going to see them drop. But you have to remember, this will be like no other classes you've ever had. The tests are the same way. It isn't that you aren't capable, you just have to reorient your way of thinking and learning. You have to KNOW your stuff. Memorizing won't get it. Strive for good grades - obviously. The further you go, the harder it gets. When you get to Cardio, test avgs drop 10 points. I'm not trying to scare you, I'm telling you what my class and myself has faced. :wink2:
