I just got an email with an acceptance letter to Estrella Mountain C.C.!!!! I start in fall 2008 and I am so excited!!! Has anyone else gotten accepted into this program??? I believe this is the first "official" class to start from Block 1 at Estrella....
YAY!!!! I'm still in shock, I can't believe it!!?!?!!
I couldn't agree with you more about finding out what our schedules are going to be like. From what I have heard, it changes constantly and we just have to be flexible. I haven't received my packet of info yet either... but can't wait!! Are you planning on working while you are in the program? If so, where at (if you don't mind me asking?)
CONGRATS!!!! Can't wait to be in class together!!!
Thanks! Congrats to you too!!! Just like you, I am taking off completely. I am glad this is an option for me as well. However, depending on the schedule, I also would like to take some job partime..although no idea where yet. Can be health related or not, depending on what place can accomodate the schedule. My original plan was to take the LPN licensure after block 1 and 2, then work fulltime during the summer and possibly part time while doing block 3 and 4. Unfortunately, my advisor told me that it is no longer an option starting Jun 2008. So right now, I am still in llimbo. How about you? Any places in mind?
Looking forward to seeing you in class! I can't wait to start school. This 50+ miles (one way) drive to work is killing me.
I too was looking into the option of the LPN!! I was really dissapointed when they did that, but what do ya do?? I have heard that some places hire studen nurses as interns and you get paid for it. Not sure how it all works, but it is definitely something I am going to look into. I also figured that you could probably get a job at a nursing home. May not be the greatest or the most desired job, but at least we could get experience. Other than that, I'm not sure??
Congrats to you guys! I'm just in the end stretch of Block I at PVCC/JCL. Is your program like the GCC weekend thing? Or do you have one 8 hr day of lecture and 2 clinical days? We have 2 4hr lecture days, and 2 clinical days. I'm barely able to work 16 hrs a week. Sometimes I feel rushed, like I don't have enough time to study and make care plans. I've been told that will be the story of my life for the next year and half, though.
thank you for the congrats!!
the emcc program is the full time program just like yours. as far as the days and times we have no clue. how long did it take you to get your information packet after you were accepted into the program?? i must admit i am very anxious and want to get everything done as soon as possible, like the tb and drug testing and what not. i believe those are required before you start school....
Oh yeah, I had to get all my shots, TB testing, everything before the start of classes. My packet came with my acceptance letter, so I'm thinking your packet should be coming along pretty quickly. Can you call the school?
For our drug testing and criminal background check, we brought a check to school on the 2nd day, and went to the human resources at JCL. I don't know how the other programs work.
Good luck. It's alot of work, but it's fun to finally be over the prereq part of school, and learning the real deal. I'm really enjoying my clinicals, too.
Are you in the accelerated program with JCL? I believe ours might be different since we are just going to the school and have not partnered up with any hospitals or organizations to pay for our schooling. I'm hoping our packets come soon, but I'll be patient *atleast I'll try*.
I feel the same way as you do, its so nice to be done with all the "pre-reqs" and finally starting the "real deal". I FINALLY know when I'm going to graduate, LoL! It's a great feeling
Congrats to you! Sounds like you are doing very well and enjoying school.
I just sent an email to the Nursing Advisor at EMCC to ask about the admission packet. I didnt get an exact date and was advised "within the next few weeks". Eventhough there was no definite date, she did send a comprehensive response including admissions info. Since I've not been to EMCC, I needed to get admitted to EMCC first. Anyway, you might want to try sending her an inquiry.
Yes I actually sent her an email right about the time you did and received the same response... in a few weeks. So we'll see. I still need to get my CPR certification, do you know if you have to have it done before they will register you or does it just have to be completed by the first day of class?

I am also starting Fall2008 at EMCC. Has anyone received their packets yet? I am still waiting. Now that my giddyness of finally being accepted has subsided, I've been looking forward to getting more information about the program itself and more importantly get a better idea of class schedules and clinicals so I can plan around it.
