Which Fairview hospital would you like to work at? Even though they are all part of the same corporation, each is a little different.
I would love to work for the U of M hospital I dont know that much about other locations

Hi,
The University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview is a great place to work. I started there in 1980 because I really liked the blend of research, teaching, and care. The complexity and variety of patients is so interesting! I learned much in my tenure at UMMC. Of late, I've moved to a position at Fairview Corporate and now see the big picture of Fairview, which is also interesting.

I work at the Fairview Southdale location on the Oncology floor. It wasn't my first choice in applying, but after interviewing there I ended up passing up an offer for my first choice to work there and I couldn't be happier. You deal with all kinds of patients not just cancer patients. There are many great nurses on the floor very willing to help and everyone helps as a team. Also the patients and their families are so thankful and kind (for the majority) when they receive good care it makes the job feel very rewarding.

I'm not so sure that I would want to work in the Fairview system; specifically Fairview Southdale. There recently was a article in the pioneer press about them laying of LPN's. The LPN's are an average age of 57 and have a combined total of 530 years of patient care. The LPN's are currently waging a age discrimination lawsuit against Fairview. I don't know if I would want to work for a hospital that disregards nurses like yesterdays trash.

I work at the U, Fairview and i love it. My first job was working with Mayo and I was worried about how someplace else would compare. I've been here for 7 years and i really enjoy working for a teaching hospital. The difference between the U campus and all of the other fairview hospitals is that its the only one that is NOT part of the union. All of the rest are union hospitals. So if that's something you're looking for, you won't find it at the U location.
