  1. is there anyone out there that is starting, finishing, or knows anyone that has been in anesthesia school and still maintained a long distance relationship? my boyfriend and i have been accepted to two separate anesthesia schools and i need some advice. Breaking up is not an option....sorry.
  2. I am 31 years old and in the same position now.....my BF and i have been together for 2.5yrs and we both just got accepted to CRNA schools -- me in Minneapolis and him in Jax FL. I'm wondering how your situation turned out, now that it has been a few years. I'm also afraid to hear what you'll say =(
  3. You know, those questions are really great and all...but for someone who is applying to the program and knows basically nothing about Anesthesia yet, how can they say what they could bring to the profession? Trust me, i'd LOVE to be able to answer those questions but i don't realistically think i'd have an answer for it.
  4. I work at the U, Fairview and i love it. My first job was working with Mayo and I was worried about how someplace else would compare. I've been here for 7 years and i really enjoy working for a teaching hospital. The difference between the U campus and all of the other fairview hospitals is that its the only one that is NOT part of the union. All of the rest are union hospitals. So if that's something you're looking for, you won't find it at the U location.
  5. (Speedy Mama) "So I am rambling, now, but my point is...hang in there! Just remember why you are there and focus on the great learning experiences that you are presented w/ every day. If you keep your eye on the prize you will be there before you know it! If nothing else, working somewhere you hate keeps you focused on your goals. I mean, be honest, if you loved it there you would be complacent and ambivalent about pursuing a grueling graduate regime. Call me sick but I think it has been a great motivation for me!" That is exactly what i plan to do! Thank you for writing that. I can hardly wait until i am applying to school....and hopefully one day getting that acceptance letter! :nuke:
  6. well, thank God for this website because it has REinspired me. No joke. I agree with you that there are definitely those days that i love my job in the CVICU. I work nights so i don't have to deal with all that day-shift stuff (getting people out of bed 3 times a shift, family coming in and out nonstop). I think we can all agree that the greatest assignment is the intubated pt on several gtts, invasive lines, machinery.....lots of critical thinking going on......that's when i feel like i'm actually DOING something. I'm with you SoReady4CRNA, i'm doing what i need to get in to school and get out of the unit. But its nice to know that others are thinking "get me the hell outta here" as they walk out those doors =)
  7. Holy God, that is intimidating. I've talked to several nurses that used to work with me in the CVICU and are now in CRNA school and none of them had those specific questions about heart blocks, EKG interpretation, interventions for abnormal blood gases, etc. Wow, that would certainly be a nightmare if you weren't prepared to answer a question like that! Ha! Although, you SHOULD know the answer if you're on the ball.
  8. I just joined this site and i read your question "do aspiring CRNA's really enjoy working in the ICU?". I was wondering what you think of it NOW, since you've been there awhile. I've always had the goal of CRNA school but working in the ICU has only confused me now. I was kinda happy to read that someone else thinks it kinda sucks working in the unit. Let me know your thoughts....
