Has anyone applied to FDU or heard anything about thier 2 year evening nursing program.

I am in a delimma. I am stuck b/t FDU and UMDNJ.

I like FDU because I would be able to work. You are in class 4 nights a week with 1 class each day.....but its an expensive school. About 25k a year and you finish in 2 years

I ike UMDNJ because its cheap but its at an accelerated pace but you have a heavy schedule and probably wont have much time to work.

What do you guys think. I live at home with my parents. I want to be able to work. I am 23 years old and I am looking to get married in the next 2-3 years. ...So I def need to save money.

Should I just do the FDU program which will offer me the flexiblity to work partime and save some money but pay the higher tuition or should I just do UMDNJ...not work and pay the lower tuition

If you choose UMDNJ, working is going to be very difficult. As I understand it, the program will comsume virtually all of your time. This is from posts I've seen on this board and from talking to folks who have gone through the UMDNJ Accelerated BSN.

I know people who went to both. FDU has great things going for it such as being able to work. While some of the staff is great just like anywhere else they have their bad ones... and really hard ones. The school it self makes it hard for you for a reason. they have the highest pass rate of the NCLEX in NJ which is good.

UMDNJ is also good the pass rate is lower because they have more students. (ex. fdu might have 30 students pass and get a 100% pass rate and umdnj might send 130 and have 90% passing tate) Umdnj has better resources such as a development center and fdu doesnt.

I would go and talk to students of each program. Students will tell you the first had exp. remember though take it with a grain of salt as many students hate everything till they get out and see what they did was helpful.

if you need anymore help let me know. I can also get you in contact with some of the students from each. if you already picked let me know which you picked.

Thank you so much for your reply. I decided to go with FDU. I would love to get in contact with any student who have been through the part time program. I would like to know what to expect

Hi MGomez, I posted this in anothe thread. You might find some useful informaiton from my post. Let me know if you have any further questions.

"Hi Felicity.....FDU is very expensive. Is it worth it? NOOOOOOOOOOOO. Is the program flexible? Well, for me Yes---I choose FDU because it was the only program that would allow me to work full time and still go to school( I am not married and do not have any kids so its even easier for me to do both). I paid with private loans and cash........Its a pocket breaker but you will likely get it all back once you start working in the field.

I am in the 2 year accelerated evening program so I can only comment on the schedule for my program.

- In general you will be at FDU 3 to 4 times a week depending on the semester. You have classes in the Fall Spring and summer.

- 98% of the classes/clinicals are in the evening (starts around 5pm). Community Health clinical is during the day from 9am-3pm (but you do not take that till your second year into the program.

- Classes are usually from 5-9 and clinicals are usually from 5p- 11p/12a depending on your teacher.

- If you have not taken healthcare economics- you will be required to take it and its usually on a Friday from 12- 3p.

- The teachers are great (I think). If you show initiative they will work with you....

- The tests are reasonable if you study and retain the information. You must know your information or you will find it very hard to pass the class. Study Study Study and always ask for help if you need it.

- The program cannot be completed on a weekend scheduled. There are no weekend classes available.

- I would not say that they cater to evening students but I can say that they understand that most evening students are full time workers. With that said, some teachers may work with the students with regards to the exams dates but that's about it.

- If you do decide to do the program- let me know and I can provide you some further details about recommended books, studying methods, etc. Hopefully I answered all of your questions. Let me know if you need some more information

Hi ggabri07

I hope you are following this thread still. I just got accepted to FDU night program and I'm so nervous about whether the night program is as good as the day program. With this program being so expensive I really would like to exchange some emails with you about the program.

I just joined this website so I don't know if there is a way that you can email me directly if there is please do

thank you so much

hello,

i just sent you a message. check your inbox.

i do not think you have anything to worry about. the night program is just as good as the day program. actually the day program is 1 year accelerated---much more classes and probably much more stress.

every student learns essentially the same thing. at the end of the day since we are adult learners we have to take responsibility for what we learn....meaning that you need to read , study study study and also start reviewing nclex questions from day one. i wished i would have followed that advice myself---but now that i am almost done and looking back----doing that would have been extremely helpful.

the classes are passable. i remember thinking that the classes were going to be extremely hard and that i would end up failing but that was furthest from the truth. i got an advice from a prior student that said that if you study you can get all b's...and my advice to you from my experience is that if you study you can get mostly a's and some b's. i think that is great! the teachers are really not out to get you.

i am a great resource. i love working with people and helping them. so e-mail me anytime with any questions that you may have....now or throughout the semester.

good luck on you studies.

Dear ggabrio07

I just sent you an email to the email address you provided. I can't thank you enough for responding. I will await your further response.

with much gratitude!

Hello JF1924 and ggabri07. I was reading through you guys post and im thankful that you both left such insightful information. I am also looking to attend FDU's evening program. Similar situation, except, this is a career change for me. I would like to ask either of you this question. I plan to work full time while completing this program as well. My question is, HOW demanding is this program? If clinicals end at 11pm and you work full time, when could u possibly have time to study? I understand this NCLEXtest is very challenging. So, I just want to be over-prepared. Please share your thoughts and advices in this matter.

Hi All,

I have the same dilemma as ggabri07 and cannot decide between FDU and UMDNJ. Does one offer better job opportunity than the other? I have 2 more pre-requisites to take (economy and bioethics which are impossible to find at other schools) before applying for the ABSN. I am changing careers and I am 31 so accelerated is what I would like to do. I like UMDNJ for its cost but prefer FDU for its location (I life few min away). I am having a hard time finding an equivalent bioethics course without the 3000 price tag (as in FDU). So my question, for those of you who successfully completed the FDU program, was it worth it? Do you get better job offers in the job market, how is FDU better than UMDNJ-in your opinion? Please reply, any help is appreciated. Thanks!

My daughter applied to FDU last year and was accepted. It was over $30k and $40k with housing. I gotta be honest with you though, for that amount of money the science classrooms were outdated and antiquated. There was garbage on the floors in the hallways and stairways throughout the campus. I have toured many campus' and those were complete turn offs. From what I heard about UMDNJ their program is tougher to get into.
