Dear all,
I'm currently planning to move to California for work. I passed my NCLEX and now I'm just dealing with the visa process.
I am being guided trough the process by a recruitment agency and I have an offer where they offer me 42dollars/hr.
I have 10 years of experience 2 in a neurosurgery ICU; 6 in a neurosurgery ward and currently I'm working on a cardiothoracic ICU which is an ECMO Center. I am planning to take my ECMO course to be an ECMO nurse specialist in November. After this, my questions are:
- Is this a fair salary for California and for my experience?
- Which in your opinion would be an appropriate salary?
Hope someone can help me and thank you so much in advance.
kind regards,
P
jgardner sorry to bother you again. They raise the offer to 52 dollars/hr would this be a more acceptable salary or do you think I should try to negotiate a bit more. I don't want to be to picky as I know that probably this is the best chance I have to move to the US, to a fantastic place as California. Missing the sunshine here in London :)Thank you in advance
Can anyone help me on this one?
Honestly I did not try to negotiate. Think the interview went really well and they're quite happy with me. If it's a good wage I think I'll accept it. I'm not good negotiating but I think if you want to try it you probably need to make your point with pertinent justifications (as your working conditions at the moment). Make them understand that there's no point for you moving there because you have better conditions where you are at the moment. Hope it works for you. I think I'll not be very picky :)
Thank you so much for your post. You made my day
Just saw this. If it's true that as an international nurse, you have to start at new grad wages, then I think that is probably a good wage for you. I'm not entirely familiar with the market up there, but compared to new grad wages in the rest of the state, it's quite a bit higher, so it's probably fair, especially knowing that the agency has to get their cut as well. Good luck!
Hi pjsrav,
You are probably looking at an effective tax rate of about 25% but there are many factors in play including filing status (married, single, head of household).
On another note, did you get confirmation that you will be doing 12 hour shifts and that you will be paid overtime after 8 hours? Because my understanding is most nurses who work 4/10 or 3/12 dont get overtime after 8 hours, only after 40 hours or 80 hours depending on the pay or billing cycle.
Hello,I'm Paulo. Nice to meet someone that is "in the same boat" :)
Yeah I tought the same and then three years just goes very quick. After, we can negotiate a better contract.
Have you done your interview with the hospital? Mine will be next Tuesday. How was it? Any hints?
Hello,
Any news on your application?
