First off I will give you my history. I graduated my RN year in May 2011 took boards in August and failed after 265 ?s, although I did kind of expect that because my study tools were a box of flash cards and my books from that year including NCLEX test prep. I then signed up for Kaplan because I heard amazing things about it, and after a long time of no videos playing they gave me the free 3 month renewal so I had Kaplan for 6 months and at the end I had a diagnostic test score of 68 and I was pumped because I found a website that said I had a 98% chance of passing boards. Well I took them again in January 2012 and failed AGAIN after 265 ?s. Needless to say this time I was more devastated and wanted to give up. I thought if Kaplan can't help me what can! I took a short break and now I am studying again with Exam Cram, Saunders, La Charity, Kaplan book, and NCLEX 4000. I feel a little overwhelmed with all these different materials and a friend of mine asked me if I had thought about hurst. I have not heard of hurst at all and I was wondering what other people thought of it. I am assuming it is most likely my content that is my downfall since Kaplan said I had it in the bag question wise.
Anyone out there that has used hurst, knows someone who used hurst, or is using hurst???? I really want to see how it has helped others before I buy into it.

I am using the online Hurst review. For core med-surg content it is great. I feel like it helped me solidify those things and I am not afraid of any questions related to those topics. If you have the $300 to spend on it, it is well worth it in my opinion.
Hope it helps!
Thank you!! I am so glad that it seems like it will help me with my content. I feel like if I can do well with content then Kaplan's decision tree can help me with the rest.

I used Hurst back in 2009 and loved it.. I passed first attempt with 78 questions. That was the only review material I used besides Kaplan's strategies book for NCLEX.. The strategies came into play when I had no clue what the question was asking LOL :)
Try not to over do it with too many different resources, that could be your downfall; many contradict themselves.
Hurst is huge on content !!

I graduated over 15 years ago with a BSN and in 2010, decided to go back into the nursing field.
Currently, I'm using Hurst online and find it quite beneficial. I lack content and Hurst helps me in that aspect. After watching each section, I refer to Marlene's book Hurst Reviews: Pathophysiology Review, then Exam Cram, Saunders (for more content reinforcement - I need LOTS of CONTENT since my brain hasn't been with nursing in years. Ask me about stocks and mutual funds, I can answer those questions readily).
For further reinforcement, I use flash cards and NCLEX RN 10,000, Saunders Q&A and answer approx 50-100 questions daily. You may not need all these resources. But in my case, I need all the help I can get to pass this next time (I took nclex RN June 2011 and failed).
Good Luck to us all!

Has anyone used exam prep and exam cram practice tests? I'm scoring in the 60's, can't seem to break that score. I also feel as though I'm guessing on alot of the answers. Testing tomorrow and REALLY starting to panic. My 11 year old said, "Mom you don't look so good"!

Hurst is amazing, I went to nursing school in another country and haven't been into nursing for over 7 years. I did the Hurst online review (with 5th day material and q question bank), got the LaCharity book, and did the Saunders Nclex questions. I passed on the first try with 75 questions!
Sounds like I made the right choice to try Hurst! Content is where I need the help and Kaplan didn't provide that for me very well, hoping the two combined will end in positive results! Good luck Begosh and Hope!!

Hurst is definitely the way to go. Strategy wise, I would not pay a class to learn strategies...you can go to your local bookstore (barnes and noble) to purchase their Kaplan Strategies book and it is just as beneficial as any Strategy course but cheaper!
Hurst is great in that everything you really need to learn for content is provided for you. Although I had Saunder's book and it was great too...it had a lot of information but it was just overloaded with WAY too much content for a normal person to really learn and understand. Hurst is precise, well put together, and easy to learn. But, don't be mistaken, like I said in previous threads...don't just think listening to it once will help you retain the material. You really do have to work hard and study to retain all the content information.
Plus, all the 5th day materials provided in Hurst is so beneficial. Especially all the infection control materials, etc. Use those to your own benefit. Good luck. I truly felt walking out of NCLEX that if you knew your material, you would pass with no problems.
I have to agree with kv07. Have to watch the video over and over again as in my case, I missed some stuff the 1st time I went through it. Also need other resources for reinforcement and better retention.
