Failed RN School retracked to LPN

Hello all. I would like to know is their anyone out here in all nurses that started out in a RN program, and either decided to get their LPN license after a failed attempt at RN school. Or were you forced to go to LPN school after any failed attempts. I did not pass my first semester at Broward College. I've had so many issues this year with that school financial aid, being accused of cheating, being dropped. I fought a long fight with that school. I'm so done. My poor heart was broken from all the drama that went on this year. However I pulled my boot straps up, and have now decided to do the LPN program at Mc Fatter, and afterwards enroll into the LPN to RN bridge at Miami Dade. I would like to know...

Did having your LPN license make your learning experience better?

If any of you go to the Miami-Dade program how do you like it, and are you a part timer or full timer?

Also are any of you single parents with children and did that play apart in rather you would go full time or part time?

Your response will be greatly appreciated.

I knew a nurse who had to take time out from her RN program to have her baby. She was promised her seat when she was ready to come back, but when the time came, they told her no. They however allowed her to enter the LVN program instead. She felt that she was discriminated against (probably dealing with race), but did not have the wherewithal to seek legal recourse and just went with the flow. As long as I knew her she did not have the means to reenter another RN program. It sounds to me like you have a good plan. Make certain you are rested up enough to start over and have "cleaned the attic" of negative thoughts, so to speak! Good luck.

I know nothing about your school. There are awful schools out there. Maybe it's one of them?

I know many LPNs who failed out of RN school for one reason or another. I think this is a good road for you to take if you really want to be a nurse.

I'm an LPN. I failed out of the first program I tried; put on my big girl panties; found another school and rocked it. Now I'm getting ready to graduate as an RN. It can be done.

Hey dream I remember you from several boards. Thanks for your input as well as the other ladies. I know you understand where I'm coming from (BC).

One of our frequently-posting members (LadyFree28) failed out of an associate degree nursing program before completing an LPN program. After working as an LPN for a few years she completed a BSN degree program and earned her RN license. According to her posts she is now working as an RN in the Philadelphia metro area.

Hello Fearless_leader, I just wanted to tell you not to give up. As you have seen me in previous post, I once was in your position in 2012. I know it is easier said then done but do not give in. I know on this website you will find a couple of students who feel that you are crazy and are offended for talking about their school just because they may be getting by but there are hundreds of students who do not make it. If you notice right before the semester so many students comment then all of a sudden they disappear because no one knows the torture you have to go threw in that program until you experience it. Semester after semester horror story after horror story but nothing being done about it because they push out a couple retracked students to graduation. I experienced the feeling of disappointment, shame and inadequacy. I had no clue what I was going to do once I failed but I knew going back and giving up was not my option. I was fortunate enough that my gpa did not drop tremendously low and I was able to get a letter from the dean say I was in "good academic standing" it was hard to find an accredited school that would accept be but thank goodness I was accepted by a BSN program and I am two semesters away from graduation. The road may look blurry now but it will clear.Wish you the best.
