So I failed a preemployment drug test in FL and know that I'm most likely going to get reported. I want to know what I can do and what's going to happen. My main concern is being suspended and being on the FL boards of nursing website where everybody can see. Please help. I am not an addict, one time thing, I love my job and have a pretty good one. I just don't want my reputation ruined. When I get a lawyer what do I tell them ? Where do I go from here ??

And here is why you still NEVER smoke weed in New York if you have one half of a brain. Perfect example here that happens frequently..........
Two nurses hang out and are friends. The friend of the nurse tells another person that you all hang out some and you had a great and awesome time and had a few drinks and smoked some weed. The "other person" happens to hate you or you piss her off or she feels her boyfriend finds you attractive and likes you. That other person tells your Supervisor that she thinks you might have some kind of a problem (only because she hates you) and she even tells the supervisor that she thought she noticed your eyes were red and you slurred your words one morning at work.
See how fast the above can spiral quickly? Next thing you know, your are at an SUD eval and they ARE testing you for everything and you get monitoring.
The above Does Happen. You better be 100 percent certain that you have checked every employer in the state of NY to ensure they don't test for weed when seeking a new job. You are rolling some serious dice and taking risk. It only takes one employer to do their own thing and to heck with what other employers are doing, especially when you get outside of NYC metro and get into more conservative areas that I can assure you.....WILL test for it.
If you smoke weed in NY, best advice is to smoke ALONE or at least, don't smoke with ANYONE that you work with. When that relationship sours, that person can ruin your life with not a ton of effort applied. If you are in NY and you smoke weed, you better be 100 percent certain that the job you are applying for doesn't test for weed and ASSuming that every Healthcare employer in the state of New York does NOT test for weed is balsy and borderline stupid.
1 hour before I wrote this message, I had lunch with a nurse who failed a pre employment drug screening at Upstate Medical Center near Syracuse for WEED 3 years ago. The nurse got 12 months of monitoring. We often "hear things and conversation" at the coffee shop out with friends who echo each other. It's group think and statements like "NY doesn't test for it," is heard, repeated, shared, passed on, repeated again, and then it is ASSumed to be true. Fact is.....because people say it over and over does NOT make it true. In order for that to be true, every Healthcare employer in the state of NY would have to be surveyed as to whether they test for weed and I can assure you, every employer hasn't been surveyed.
The actual and likely TRUE statement about New York is.........there are many employers that don't test for weed and the majority don't test for it, but there are SOME that do." The word SOME scares the he$$ out of me enough to raise concern.

I know several people who work in health care in New York because they use marijuana for pain. They were never tested for it, one is a physician and 2 are nurses and they are spread out all over New York.
They don't test people for alcohol pre employment. Only with cause.
You are very extreme. You drug test regularly with a lawyer just in case you're ever asked by a monitoring program or BON if you have a SUD. Most of us wouldn't want to live like that. I know I wouldn't want to live like that

You "knowing several people who work in health care in New York because they use marijuana for pain" isn't good enough evidence for me. That's weak evidence, very weak. I know several employers in New York State that in fact, DO test for marijuana. You wrote, "They Don't test for weed in NY." Statement's like that are DANGEROUS. They can get people in trouble, not intentionally, but accidentally, because some nurses will take that as gospel or assume it to be "Law" when it's not Law. It's an assumption, and it's a TRUE ASSUMPTION that most employers in the state of New York do NOT test for weed, BUT........There are some that do, and if you are a nurse who is naive and just hears something like this on this Board and assume weed is Never tested for in NY, and you apply for a job an smoke weed and you are unfortunate enough to be applying at one of the places that do test for weed, your life can be ruined........All because you Believed, ASSumed something you read on a message board was Gospel, or Truth, because "everybody says it" so it must be true, when in fact......it's not True.
As for me being "extreme" or whether "us" (whoever that is) would want to "live like that" has ZERO bearing on your False Statement that basically implied, "Weed is never tested for in New York." What I do, don't do, half way do, sometimes do, extreme, not extreme, how you want to live, I live, everyone else live, HAS ZERO to do with your statement.
