I was in a previous nursing school and failed out my 3rd semester. I have tried to transfer to a different school for a year and wasn't successful! Finally, After a year I was able to transfer as a traditional student and was told as long as I meet the requirements I would have a fair chance. Well now I have passed the hesi entrance exam, I have a 3.0 GPA, and I've taken all of the pre reqs and I've applied for clinicals. I exceed the minimal requirements and then some. But now they are telling me that " me failing out of nursing school" will be taken into consideration. Does this mean I don't have a fair chance of getting in? Has anyone had this problem?
so basically what you are saying is that when people sugarcoat for you and tell you that you have nothing to worry about they are being honest and sincere, but when they tell you the truth which is that your options will be limited they are being mean. You asked for advice from real nurses, ones who have gone through nursing school and know how it is in the real world. You should realise that you are going to receive responses that are not what you want to hear. A lot depends on where in the country you are located also. Your GPA is minimal and you failed another program. Those are facts and those facts will limit your options going forward. I don't think it's impossible but I do think it will be difficult for you
I NEVER SAID " THAT I DIDNT WANT TO HEAR WHAT THEY HAD TO SAY " ! if you being real about a response & giving me advice I have no problem with that! I'm taking everyone's advice and all the tips given to me. WHETHER ITS SOMETHING I WANT TO HEAR ABOUT OR DONT WANT TO HEAR! But some people's comments are very rude and bluntly stated!! But do you see me commenting back to them telling them that?? No, if that's how they are expressing their points of view on my situation then there's nothing I can do about that. Don't come on the thread trying to blow things out of proportion and jumping to conclusions. I can't expect everything to be all peaches and cream when my situation is not even peaches and cream. I wasn't expecting comments to be sugar coated an nice when in reality it's not like that.
What the new school is saying is basically, if accepted, you start from scratch. You start over from very first year. The 3 years of classes you passed is not transferred.
yes! Exactly! None of my clinical courses will transfer. & was hurt at first! But it's something I got over. I had to put my pride aside and go after what I really wanted. Anywhere I go I will have to restart all clinical courses.

Woah with the yelling, that is totally unnecessary especially since no one yelled at you. Just to add, no one was ever "mean" to you. If honesty = mean well then, count me on the mean side I guess. You asked for advice & opinions on a public forum, not everyone will have the same things to say.

your statements on being mean is irrelevant. Everyone have the right to say what they want to say. & if I think some of the comments are rude then that's my opinion! I wasn't yelling I was capitalizing to make sure you understood that I don't feel any type of way towards any of the comments on my thread! All the advice and tips is important to me whether is was rude, negative, positive or whatever. It's just you blowing things out of proportion. Have a nice day ma'am, and thank you for your two cents and advice! I appreciate it.
It's so weird that people being honest is rude. Do you wanna hear it? No. But life isn't always sunshine & rainbows. Also, why go to a for profit institution & pay three times as much when you can go to a community college, go through the LVN program & pay a fraction. I mean, last I checked the 'N' in LVN stood for nurse.
I agree. Some are rude but the advice and tips are great! I tried the Lpn route and was accepted and then I couldn't get any financial aide. I would've had to pay $655 monthly to the school, which would've been extremely hard to do and try to focus on school

I haven't had this problem, however I don't think this necessarily means that you won't get in. You should ask your admission advisor if writing a letter of explanation to the committee could improve your chances and definitely do that. My guess is that your school has to tell students this, because nursing school is very competitive, and the schools typically have very strict rules they follow, to maintain a good status with the Board of Nursing in their state. You want this. Best of luck!

Thank you! I'm meeting with the dean this week! 8 will definitely ask this question! Thank you :)
Something that I found out that may not apply in your case is 4 year schools will not accept you if you have failed out of a program previously. At least, not in Texas. I seriously called all of them. A community college program will take you though, you just have to call and ask. That's how I did it without paying an arm, leg and kidney.
I guess this must vary a lot by region, in Texas you found all you had to do was call and ask to get into a community college nursing program but any of the ones around here, where we get students in our facility from, have no chance of doing that. Because it's more competitive to get a spot in a community college nursing program as the cost is much lower, their standards can be much higher. I know of at least two community colleges that won't take anyone who has failed out of any nursing program anywhere no matter what. They can pick and choose from 3.8-4.0 students who have never failed and they do just that.

No one was ever rude. Blunt? Yes. Rude? No. If you think people on here are rude *you* have a rude awakening coming your way. No, you were yelling. All caps online is the equivalent of yelling. By your posts it tells a lot about your behavior in person.

Go back & reread my post, I said no one was rude & that it's weird that being honest is being rude (just because you don't agree with them). So why would you pay twice as much to go through a for profit institution to get your bachelor'S. Also, it sounds like you you were going to a private institution to get your LVN. Look into community colleges.
I'm starting to understand why you failed out of nursing school.
