Failed NCLEX

Published

Hey everyone, I took my NCLEX last week and I didn't pass. It was so difficult! I got a ton of SATA, it seemed like every other question was SATA! I received 250 something questions. I used the online Hurst review for about two weeks. Hurst is great with content information but in my opinion it did not prepare me for the questions I received on NCLEX. I went to Barnes and noble yesterday and purchased a couple books. Hopefully they are helpful (we'll see when I take the boards again on August 21st) I have started reading the Exam Cram which is a "Pearson" book. So far it's pretty good, I've already seen one question similar to a question I got on the NCLEX. I also bought the illustrated NCLEX review by Jo Carol Claborn, if your a visual learner I recommend it because it has drawings of people with a disease and funny ways to remember your content. I've been seeing people post about LaCharity. I Want to buy that book but is it worth it? How many questions should I be reviewing per day? I want to follow a strict study routine. Please give me some feedback:)

Sorry to hear that your NCLEX experience didn't turn out well. What I recommend is focusing on learning "how" to dissect the different types of questions and the thinking process of answering each question. This is an art to it and a very important part of studying for this exam. Hope this helps!

Thank you for the advice:) I appreciate it

Oh please don't give up! I failed mine the first time too and felt really awful for a while about it but you can do it!!!! I used Kaplan my first time and I used Hurst review my second time... I also used some Saunders. I hope you try again. I have faith in you!

So sorry to hear that ): But don't give up!

I used Kaplan to prepare in addition to a few other books. Lippincott Q&A for the NCLEX-RN for content areas I knew I weak in (I went through the cardi and OB sections), and also Lippincott Alternate Format book (it's *just* alternate format questions).

Kaplan is great in that it drills into your head to slow down and really dissect questions and narrow down. I found Kaplan lacking with Select All That Apply (SATA) questions though (and those were my tender white underbelly...I sucked at answering those!). The Lippincott book gave me the extra practice I needed. Got 29 SATA before shutting off at 75, so I was very pleased with the book.

Best of luck to you! Review your report to find out what areas you missed the bar on and go for another round. You can do it!! :)

Thank you!!! I will never give up, round two

Im going to tackle this test and pass:)

Congrats on passing RN

I just got Kapplan. Does Lacharity have questions? I will be buying that book because I've had a few people recommend it. Do you do a certain amount of questions a day?

Hi there, sorry for the late reply...

I took the NCLEX last Friday (17th) and I am now anxiously waiting for the result. I used a bunch of study materials. Devoted my 3 weeks straight to get this all done.

1. Hurst Review - I like the lecture because I can listen to it over and over again while I am doing something else. Meaning, I have to use my ears when my hands and eyes can't read a text or do Q&A. I did the Diagnostic Test right after the live review course and I saved the remaining 5 Qbank, 7 days before my test. I used it as my readiness tool. Diagnostic I got 70 but the rest of the tests I was getting 88's-92's. (boost my confidence not to cancel my schedule).

2. Since I set aside my Hurst Q Bank for last, I signed-up for a 5 week NCSBN NCLEX review and did all their tests too. I skipped the content part because I have Hurst. Hurst is basic and is direct to the point. I was doing this along side with the Kaplan freebies online tests.

3. Then I felt like it wasn't enough, I bought the Saunders Q&A App online and i like it too.

4. And the La Charity for management and prioritization.

My result will be available in an hour, i hope I pass.

Hi joce09' Good luck on your upcoming exam! Godless and you can do it!

I have heard that Hurst, Saunders, and Kaplin are good books to use

PVT works! AM now an RN:loveya:

Congrats! Nursemaricel, is it your first time taking it? How did you study for the test?

Yeah, first time...

I've probably did a lot of review, but the way my exam was structured I was thankful that I did read Prioritization, Delegation and Assignment by La Charity.

I spent 3 weeks of studying. I did the following:

1. Hurst Review (live) in May right after graduation. I used this as my content material because it's easy to read, so basic and fun. I listen to the lecture almost everyday when I am not on my desk doing Q&A. I always have my earphone with me, technically in everything i do. I saved the 5QBanks for the last week of my review to gauge my readiness. Hurst FAQ states that it is most likely that you will pass if you get at least an 84 on each test. (They only have 6 Tests composes of 125 questions. I did the first test as diagnostic where I get a 70 and all the remaining ranging from 88-92). I like their rationale, funny sometimes but it made sense.

2. I need more practice tests, so I took the NCSBN NCLEX review. They have a very nice material too but I don't need the content, so I just focus on their test bank.

3. I bought the Saunders Q&A app, so wherever I go and whatever I am doing (even when I am sitting on the toilet bowl, I do Q&A)...seriously.

During the test, I just focus on what is being asked. Because to tell you the truth, I don't even know what they are asking about. Ended up with lots of SATA's and Management of Care... I didn't get any single Math. When the computer turns blue after I hit the 75th question, I felt like I failed the test and there's no way I passed it! Thanks God to PVT it calms my nerves.

I wasn't an A student when I was in the Nursing school, I did it so you can also do it. Go back to the basics and know how to apply those basics into a real world of nursing. All the best!

Can you please share with us, now that you have taken the NCLEX, what materials that you used to prepare were the most helpful and/or similar to the test.. Thank you!!!

Thank you soooo much!!! tomorrow is the big day. Round 2 ahhhhhh I'm so scared:uhoh3:
