Hi everyone,
I took my nclex-rn exam last march 2009 and fortunately I failed again. This is my third try to exam since we migrated here in the US last 2006 with my husband and daughter. I was 3 months pregnant then. After giving birth with my baby, I started my review again, i enrolled at kaplan for international nurses, do the saunders and exam cram..I took the nclex again on Nov. 2007..failed again.. i was so depressed then, not only my husband is expecting my success in the exam but my relatives here and back home as well. I know i dont have enough time to review because i have to take care of my daughter at the same time my baby, my husband works as an rn night shift..and one thing we are staying with my relatives here..
Luckily, we moved in our new house early 2008, thinking that i all have the freedom/time to review on my own without thinking of the relatives..but i was wrong. It's so hard to balance, to find time to study when you have a family to take care esp. my baby..by the time they are all sleeping and i thought its time to review..am so exhausted already..
Right now, am getting ready again for my 4th attempt to take the nclex-rn..i have all the resources that you all mention in some of the thread that i read here..saunders, kaplan, exam cram, lippincott, nurse made incredibly easy, medication in a box, LaCharity...i even enrolled now for NCSBN...i am so overwhelm now that i have all this review materials..i dont know where and how to start my review again. I'm so confused. I really need your advice..
Thank you so much for your time reading this..
P.S.

questions:
**when you received your exam test results from your state board of nursing, has there been improvement with each nclex you have taken???
** are you running out of time when you test??? if so, work on your speed.
**as you complete your practice questions, are you understanding the rationales for those questions that you are getting incorrect/wrong???
**is the issue lack of nursing content?
some suggestions:
**using your nclex test results, focus on your weak areas but do not forget to include the other subject areas as you study.
**there are eight areas (i think?) that are tested on the nclex, allow yourself 1-2 weeks (or a timeframe that you are comfortable with) for each areas as you study for the exam. include an additional week/more time, if necessary, for med math and pharmacology, delegation/prioritization and infection control.
**with a small child, it may be best for you to study when your child sleeps/naps during the day. an hour of study is better than none at all. if your child naps "several" times during the day, study "several" times a day.
**you may have to enlist the help of your spouse on his days off. when he is home from work and has had his sleep, you need to do your studying but do not stay home to do it!!! you and your spouse must "share the load" when it comes to home/child so you can have some "solitary" time when you are studying. it's okay to study off/on as your care for your child/home; but at some point during the day/week, you need to incorporate additional concentration on content and/or your practice questions. someone once said that preparation for the nclex should be 1/3 content and 2/3 practice questions. so, during a 3-day study period, you should be allowing one of those days for content and 2 days for questions (...or, in a 3-hour period, 1 hour should be on content and 2-hours on questions...)
**go to your local library or take a picnic lunch and go study at a park in your area. you need to remove yourself from your normal surroundings so that you can concentrate. with me, i found that i appreciated time away from home and began to look forward to going to the library (i used one of their study rooms so i wouldn't have to listen to miscellaneous noise) and even enjoyed a change of scenery (park, watching the ducks on the river, watching the dolphins swim while sitting on the sand at the beach)
**also, while at home, is your tv on?? is your radio on?? if so, turn them off!!! you won't have a tv or radio playing while you take your nclex.
right now, you must learn to seize every opportunity that you can, in order to study. to really test yourself, every now and then, take a full 265-question test. only allow yourself 6-hours to take the exam. this will place you in an nclex type of environment and help you to determine if there are any issues with time, etc.
hope the information is helpful.
hang in there, create a study plan, follow the plan, take and pass your nclex!!!

I understand how you feel bc i have been there and also have kids, they disturb alot.
My advise is for you to have in mind that you have a task which you must accomplish, and this task will be useful to you and to your family.
Right now plan on how to do the household work and read your books. Involve your husband this time for help, do household work in the day and read at night, bc reading with kids in the house is like reading in the park unless they are not in. Plan to give them dinner early and send them to bed early too. Sleep at the same time with them bc you need to rest your brain, have your alarm on if you cannot wake up by yourself, then wake up in the midnight or early morning and read. this is the way im doing right now, and is working for me.
two-4hrs a day is something, make sure you read with understanding. You can make it with your kids but you must plan and keep to it .
Your materials are useful according to those that have passed, make use of them one after the other so that you will not be confused, this is my suggestions.
Goodluck.

I am exactly in the same situation like yours. I failed Nclex-RN 3 times and stay home mom of 3 kids. I graduated in December 2008. It's been 9 months since I graduated and all my friends are RN now. I just had my 3rd baby in June. With brand new baby, 2 years old, and 8 years old, I am having a hard time finding time to study. On top of that, my husband is going to overseas for 2 years in October. I don't know when I am able to take Ncelx again.... I want to be RN!!! But I try to study everyday even its 30 minutes or 10 minutes. Whenever I have a chance, I do questions and make notes. I know you can do it!! And I know I can do it too. We need to support each other and that's this web site is for!!! :)
to aqua1106, groundnutbaby, mommys nya and all the other moms out there that are attempting to study while caring for their "little ones:
hang in there! in time, you will find a way to study that best fits your current schedule. keep in mind that you cannot do it alone! at some point, you will need to enlist the help of your spouse/significant other, family and friends in order to have the time (2 hours minimum per day) to study. if you must, put the older kids on a daily nap schedule, that's what my sister-in-law did. you can study while they nap. also, sleep during the day--when the kids nap--and study at night. as i said, you will figure out a study schedule. it may not be routine but you will find the opportunities when they are available. index cards with notes may work also. you can read the cards any where (in line at the grocery store, as you cook, while feeding the kids, etc.).
good luck everyone!
