Failed the NCLEX RN with 76 questions!

Nursing Students NCLEX

I failed my NCLEX with 76 questions! i hated the exam, .. i really found the questions hard, but when i walked out of there, i honestly thought i passed, because i got so many sata questions , and two hours later i tried the pearsonvue trick and sure enough it worked, because i went all the way to the cc page, and today i checked the site, paid the money on pearsonvue and found out i failed, the exam is horrible, all they ask are priority questions, infection control and sata, i hated it!! i need advice from the ones who passed, i really need to pass this damn thing, please help..

I guess I cannot say that my technique worked as I'm also waiting for results. I agree with Nurse4life4ever. I was glad I did the Kaplan Qbank. It was like doing the Qbank while doing the NCLX exam. Only thing was that I was just progressing 30 questions per hour. I treated every questions like it was the last questions (just not sure this was the way to go) I prepared for the long haul but was cut short midpoint with a priori question. Tommorow is my 48th hour.

now i heard that kaplan qbank is actually harder than the nclex, so in other words, since its harder, does it make one over think or read into when doing the nclex questions? because most ppl on this site are saying that the qbank for kaplan is a lot harder than the nclex, and therefore; is it actually helpful that its harder? or did it confuse you during ur exam? .. and what strategy would u recommend if u dont know the answer, i mean ive heard that if u dont know the answer to a question, then look for answers that are similiar, and if they are similiar then threw them out, and then you are left with two choices, and then make an educated guess. I also heard that if there are two opposites as your choice for ex. take with meals and take before meals, the answer is one of the opposite. And there are many more strategies like that. Have u heard of any of these strategies, or tried any strategies of ur own during the exam?

Saunders CD is awsome because it gives you the rationale and strategy hints.

thanks for the advice :)

I took mine last week and had 265 questions, I tried the trick 2 hours later and it let me get to the CC page. I basically had all of the topics you can think of, mostly SATA's, and some of the medications I have never heard of.

I self reviewed for a month and finished the Saunders Comprehensive Book.

I would take some time now to study because I learned that cramming for NCLEX will not really help. (I graduated a year ago).

don't lose hope, lets just think of this as a challenge to try harder next time,

and yes, try to relax a night before the test, because the night before my test,

I was not able to sleep, my test was scheduled at 8am and I was still awake at 3 am, ate breakfast at 5am and prepared at 6am because we still had to drive for half an hour. Good luck on our next try. We will make it in God's time.

thats very sad, im sorry for you. i know EXACTLY how u feel. We both will make it. It just really hurts, because i had a job lined up, and my job is holding my position for me. I want to pass, it was so humiliating letting them know that i failed. i hated telling them. It was very embarrasing. Yes good luck in our next try. I really think a lot of this has to do with luck. Especially because ive heard that many people who get 265 questions usually pass because they are so close to passing, atleast u are more closer to passing than me. I ended at 76 questions, i did very poorly. We will not lose hope, we can never. I will keep u in my prayers and you keep me in yours :). I have scheduled my next exam for mid august (have to wait 45 days ughh) , its also at 8am, and i know the night before will be a sleepless night for me. But i have learned from you, i will try my best to be rested and make sure that i get a good night's sleep. Take care and good luck to the both of us.

hi

i know how u feel, i failed the 1st time i took my test but i did'nt give up, after 2days i gather all my books and started to study again i told my self "i'm going to past this time", so last june 5th i took it for the 2nd time and with GOD blessings and guidance i passed.,keep on study and ask GOD for HIS guidance don't give up and keep on going, you'll pass next time.

goodluck

good for you, congratulations!!! very motivating.

I am going through so much depression right now. I was working as a graduate nurse when I found out I failed. I had to tell my employer I failed. That was the worst part of the whole failing process. I felt so embarrased and insulted by the fact that I had to tell my employer that "I failed my exam". They had so much hope in me. I had told my employer about the pearsonvue trick , and she told me not to trust it, that it was totally wrong. She had so much hope in me. I feel so bad. She also kept putting my name on the BON website to see if it would be up there. I hated telling her that I failed. So many of my friends have passed their first time. I feel hopeless and like a failure. I just finished registering for Kaplan. Hope this helps. Please pray for me.

They got all tricks about interpreting the exam. What I looked closely during the exam was " When to intervene", What to do first, etc, etc... this were all the mistakes I made while answering the Qbank. So when I took the exam, I was carefull not to make the same mistakes.

There's plenty of good advice out there, but what save the day for me was "How to think like the NCLEX", the opening videos (Kaplan) identified all this. I was only able to watch the videos I was weak in... Psch, meds, and some health promotions...

I was getting a lot of naps and sleeps days before the exam (unheard of for me), that is why I was able to recall stuff from Patho and other classes.

Yes, the Qbank was hard but it made me feel at home while doing the NCLEX. When stuck with a Qbank you don't know (which happened most of the time for me) I tried thinking thru it. This helped me during the exam.

The decision tree? Depends on the question.

Hope this helped. Goodluck.

Good post, GoA2.7.. thanks for the tips

its good to know that you felt at home with the nclex with the help of the qbank. did you think that the qbank questions were harder than the nclex? were you able to easily eliminate two choices on the nclex vs the qbank? because i just started kaplan today, and scored 55 % on first 50 questions, and 52 percent on second 50 questions, which is pretty low. i hope to do better class hasnt started for me, it will start towards middle of july. where are these opening videos? i see the video about decision tree and test taking workshop (which is quite dated). i dont know where "how to think like the nclex" video is located, is that in the content area ?

i just took the test today and 265 questions and all of my questions were sata, priority, iv calculations, dont know if i passed but i KNOW how you feel that test is horrible and i broke out in hives befor during and still while i am waiting on the results is a computerized test so y do u have to wait?

Apology about" How to think..." there is none, but the message was in the videos you already watched... differentiate NCLEX test and college test... just follow or be ahead of the course plan. I Think it wants you to read the first 3 chapters or so. It explains everything about the review. Looks like you're already ahead of the ballgame. All videos are all in the same page, just have to play with the selections on top of the page. I was just getting just about the same scores you got. Check other threads regarding this topic. Hope I do not give false hopes, like I said, this was what worked for me. I wished I could had done more prep. What matters now is I passed.

Have fun, get plenty of sleep.:specs:

oh by the way 2bnurse4life4ever, it seems that a lot of people get frustrated with the questions... it' how you looked at it "half-full or half empty". the videos also identified what type of questions that will get you pass the nclex. the harder the questions, the more i was smiling because it means i was doing something right. by the time i was done, i was giggling.

you want the hard questions to show up. the videos also explained that.

half full or half empty.

I highly recommend doing the Kaplan course. I did it online and really liked the online tests. Be sure to do all of the tests and review each of the rationales for all of the questions. I would brush up on doing math problems, Kaplan was a little weak in that area. I also used the Mosby Illustrated Study Guide for the NCLEX RN Exam and thought it was a great source for content.

I wish you all the best. This seriously was the hardest test that I have ever taken and only feel that it is by God's grace that I passed it. He is faithful and will help you. All the best...sending good thoughts your way!
