Failed NCLEX the first time *RETAKE*

Published

Hello everyone,

I did nclexRN on 01/14/15, and failed at 75 questions. I thought I would passed after studying and praying *it is well*

I used Kaplan - Good for content - Decision tree did not work for all the questions

I used NCSBN - Very easy and straight forward (wish I did that till couple of days before the exam)

I used Hurts Video - they are really good.

Now I have so much stuff going on in my head:

Should I do the LPN exam in couple of week since everything is still fresh?

The cost and process for LPN exam is the same $200 for FL

Should I continue with listed resources, study harder, pray and hope for the best?

ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE?

Thanks

Welcome to AN! The forum you have posted in is intended for feedback to the moderators/site owner. There is a very active NCLEX discussion forum in the student section- why not head on over and check out what tips others have posted or asked for? https://allnurses.com/nclex-discussion-forum/

In order to decide what path to take, first ensure that your state allows you to take the NCLEX-PN. If so, see what the requirements are- do you have to wait a length of time since you've already taken another exam? However, only you can make the decision to retake NCLEX-RN or attempt NCLEX-PN. Have you made a list of pros and cons for each option? That would be a good place to start.

Hi:

Moved to our NCLEX Discussion Forum --ton's of advice here.

Are you doing taking any practice exams? I did 265 questions 5 days a week 3 months and Kaplan Review. I read and wrote down the rationale for every wrong question I had. I passed the first time, and I may had over done it with all the studying but I needed to make sure I passed. Keep going with the NCLEX RN. Don't settle for less! Good luck 😊

First off, welcome to AllNurses!

Since you have just taken the NCLEX-RN, I would suggest that you wait for the Candidate Performance Report to arrive in the mail. That will indicate the general areas you will need to study. I would NOT suggest taking the NCLEX-PN as it's a different exam that focuses on different things at this point. As you have taken the RN exam, I can only presume that you studied at an RN level, so go for the RN again. I wouldn't suggest going for the PN exam as I would expect that by the time they've processed your LPN application, you will again be eligible to take the -RN exam again.

Wait for that CPR report to arrive, spend your study time reviewing the areas you did well on and spend some focused study time on the deficient areas.

As far as study materials go, I've heard varying things about Kaplan... but mostly that the decision tree doesn't work well for some questions. Hurst seems good. I've used the Saunders 6E book for most of my study and also the NCLEX-4000 for more questions on the computer as well.

Mostly though, most of your material should have been provided to you via Nursing School.

Good luck next time you take on the NCLEX-RN!

Retake nclex rather than getting lpn exam. Dont go below. Aim getting ur RN license it all thesame procedure when u apply for u LPN license

Content of lpn exam is different from RN exam

Thank you all so much. I have opted out of the LP exam. FL requires the same about of money. My school paid for the exam out of our tuition and they had a cap date on when we had to take it, if not I would have waited. BUT MOVING FORWARD.

Thank you all for the advice, I will stay focus and take the test again in couple of months.
