I failed my exam for the 5th tiime, and I graduated in 2006. I need to find the strength to go to a refresher course. I have my Sanders book and the kaplan book as I took the review way back in 2005. I don't know what to do next, I don't want to give up, but where do I start to re-start in reviewing again? i took the exam in March and failed after 153 questions.
I am open for all feedback!
Disappointed and unmotivated...
I thank you for the feedback. I can't give up on this, I graduated with my BSN in 2006. I failed my NCLEX spending too much time reviewing within the year I graduated. Every time I fail, I spend 1 year later to study and retake the exam. I will find a mentor or a tutor to knok this exam out. I am always missing in areas when I take the exam. I believe that Nursing is my true calling. i have been a medical assistant for 15 years, and my next step is a RN. Thank you again..
Thank you for the feedback! I still have Suzanne's plan and find it works very well for me. I have not yet spent a whole 6 weeks prior to taking the exam yet, and aybe that is where I am going wrong!
I just don't know where to start when I start back to the drawing board in reviewing, after failing my exam. Do I look at the results of the fail letter? Do I start back off where I started? Do I start all over and find a chapter I am weak at? Do I just start hitting questions again? Or maybe start in the beginning of the Saunders book. I have the 4th edition of Saunders and it is a blue one.The comprehensive book. Is there a newer one? Should I get the newer version?

Hi jazzysmika,Don't give up!! If nursing is what you want to do than you go for it girl. It may not be because you are not getting the concept of the nursing practice, you may just be looking at the questions wrong on the test and need some guidance on how to figure out what the question is asking. My God, people can say some pretty mean things!! Just like everyone is saying, don't let negativity get in the way of you getting your license and becoming the Nurse that you want to be. I had a mentor to help me out and I did just fine, finally. Ask for help from your nursing school, I did and they can probably help you! If you stay on this site, people can help you and they are positive (Percent of the TIME) and know that you need postiveness right now, not negativity. Don't give up, no matter what, you can do this and you will (Prayer Does Help)!!! Keep your chin UP!!
Thank you, thank you!! A couple of years ago I was on this site heavy and I praised so many who had to retake and finally passed. I need the positivity right now, my angle is NOT TO GIVE UP, but to go at a different approcah in studying and reviewing.
My dear,Listen and take good advices from people in this forum and throw away every negative comment.
I have a friend who failed 9 times and passed on the 10th one. If you search through this forum you will read a lot of testimonies of those who failed more than 5times and never gave up until they pass.
I praised you for saying the truth bc not everyone will have the heart to say how many times they failed.
Falling 5 times will not make you change your career unless you wanted to.
Take a break for one or two weeks off from book, then read one of the latest review books, read it cover to cover, saunders is good [4th edition]. then register for a live content review in your area even if it takes you out of your city if possible for you.
Make sure you pray always if possible do your prayers with fasting if you are a christain.
Then start your next exam in a different way and see the handwork of God in your life.
You are never a failure until you give up. Nclex is not a true test of knowledge, i'm talking from experience.
Remember Jesus fell 3 times on His way to calvary and never gave up to carry our sins, sufferings and failures.
The Lord is your strenght, you can do it. Good luck in your next exam.
I thank you for the motivation and words of wisdom. i truly appreciate it, and yes I do spend time on my knees praying. praying that I will get over this. I know it is hard, but I will get through it. I am just not patient!
What is the live content review? Is that like the Kaplan review course?
Hello! Just like jazzysmika, I'm still waiting for my sweet success in passing NCLEX. I took the NCLEX twice and did not pass. The first time I found out I did not pass I cried my heart out and loss faith in myself. I took kaplan and studied hard for about a month and a half. I was working 4x/week for 7hrs then hit the library for 4-5hrs during work days. I thought I was ready to take it especially that I just graduated and everythings still fresh, and hearing all of the good news from my friends that they passed with 75 questions or more, I definitely felt that I was ready as well. But as soon as I sat down to take the test...I panicked! Every time I see more questions (after question#80), my hands got colder, felt like throwing up, and I definitely wanted to cry. I managed to finish up 265 questions, but I was 100% sure I did not pass.
After that, I quit my job and decided to focus on studying. But it was very difficult. I felt ashamed and stupid. I didn't want to see/talk to any of my friends from school because I didn't want them to know. Even going back to our school library to study was difficult for me because I was afraid of seeing someone that took the NCLEX and passed. It was very hard to stay focused and pay attention while studying, my mind always go off somewhere else like, "Am I the only one from my class who failed? How am I gonna pay back my loan, or I should be helping my family," instead my parents and older sister are still paying for my rent/food/allowance. And so the 2nd time I took the test, I know that I was not as prepared as I should have but took it anyway. and sure enough I failed again with 265 questions.
I will take the test again in July. I hope to find it in myself the strength I need to open that Kaplan and Saunders book and study hard, real hard! Just need to find a way to concentrate and stay focused.
Any advice/tips? sorry for the lengthy post. needed to release all this sad feelings, my chest just feel so tight and heavy

Don't loose hope. give yourself break. i don't think so you have to change your career if you havn't passed yet . you will .....pray to God. take it as its first time. Don' t tell to everyone . Change your study pattern . May be that will work. Don't loose hope. We all will pass for sure. Don't pay attention to people who give negative ideas. listen to positive ones.
hi, just read your message and i understand how you feel....nclex is all about how safe nurse you are...the next time you take the nclex...just remember safety first then abc's...always take the least invasive procedure...you won't get lost... in every question look for the answer that helps the patient first, not the labs, not doctors, not equipment...unless the topic of the question is not the "patient"...i hope this could help you....you'll be a nurse just wait..don't give up.
