Good afternoon everyone.. I failed LS1 this week with a horrible F!! My first Failure thus far. I used SG101 and the practice exams but felt that neither prepared me for this test. Maybe i just took this test too lightly. So now I'm trying to regroup and change my study tactics so that i can move on. If anyone has suggestions or advise it would be greatly appreciated.

Did you take the EC practice exams? Definitely review the areas where you were the weakest. Sounds like you need to invest in some textbooks and do the required reading as outlined in the exam content guide.
I did use the practice exams. Going to go through them again and ordering the medsurg book since after ordering it i received the second volume and not the first. I just felt that the practice exams wasnt as challenging as the real thing. Nonetheless this time around i will be doing a lot of reading

Use the recommended text book, follow the content guide the answers are all in the book, read not just read, read and understand the concept. Example, what's COPD? Definition, what causes it, what are s/s, how do treat it ,what are the drugs to threat it, how do they work, even if the content guide don't ask you attack each topic that way and see if that helps

Sorry you didn't pass Was it the SATA questions that tripped you up? I used sg101 also and did well on the exam, but I didn't have that many sata either, LS3 was a nightmare though. The life spans are more med surg unlike the health safety and foundations so they get more into the disorders and treatment like nceyishi said.
Yes!! Lots of SATA questions along with everything that i didnt focus on So now i'll focus on everything especially the drugs. Thanks for the advice ladies. And UlanaD sg101 just wasnt as well organized for this subject as it was for the last ones. Or maybe its just me

You're not alone, I also failed my LS1 exam. I also used studyguide101 and the practice exams as my main form of study.
LS1 was the 3rd Nursing exam I took...I studied for the others for 2 weeks a piece and got Bs. I studied for LS1 for 2 MONTHS and got a D.
This time around I also purchased the med surg book. I've also been watching cardiac A&P lectures on you tube and listening to Kaplan and Feuer NCLEX review lectures on each exam subject. Will it be enough? Probably not, as I'm still struggling with EKG strips.
Let this be a warning (especially for LPNs) unless you work in cardiac care, previously worked as a respiratory therapist and have had every kind of Cancer and cancer treatment known to man, SG101 and the practice exams alone aren't going to cut it. You will actually have to LEARN the content, versus REVIEWING things you already know/knew, which is what most of the content in the "phase 1" courses were.

I have to disagree with this. I am an LPN, have never worked as a RT or on a cardiac unit nor do I know much at all about cancer drugs. I passed this exam with the use of studygroup and practice exams. It is a very difficult exam and contains a lot of content which is complicated. I did find with this exam that it resembled the practice exams the Least but I was able to retain enough information and use test taking strategies to pass the exam. Everyone is going to have their own opinion on which exam is horrid. Ask me and I'll say they all are lol! But it's definitely doable, don't be discouraged

I'm taking ls1 next, so this discussion was helpful for me. I'm really starting to dislike excelsior business plan...the fee raises, the exam seminars, the lack of classes online, the quality of the online classes, the general lack of concern for students...I have a couple degrees, and I have never experienced a school that ran this way. The LS1-3 seem to highlight this...LS1 should be called ACLS and Med Surg 202 but it is not...right?!? Anyone switch back to a brick and mortar school? Credits transfer?
thanks!
