FAILED the HESI exam

i failed the HESI exam twice. i missed the last one by 2 points. any advice or suggestions. *long sigh***

Only 3 people passed the first time and maybe 9 this time...out of a class of 45. How many attempts is a school required to provide and if you NEVER pass it then what???? (im sure that wont be the case w/me...just wondering) :monkeydance:

My first strategy had none, the second time i focused on what i knew i didnt even look at...For the next time, i am carefully reviewing my results from the first 2 attempts, highlighting what i did poorly in...zeroing on to bring those scores up and looking at everything else.

I just think taking this exam takes very serious preparation, definitely more than when taking a regular school exam. i appreciate also that this happened because i know it is helping me to PASS the NCLEX.

There were subjects we NEVER touched on in class and not surprisingly this is what brought me down. I still will like advice or suggestions. i find it helpful to see how others study. Will we still walk, yes but it wont be as sweet ~ :monkeydance:

Found this written by Jolie in 2005: "t also seems that the HESI requirement was tacked on as a CYA move by a school with a less than favorable NCLEX passing rate. Perhaps their efforts would be better spent upgrading their curriculum, rather than relying on a test to weed out students who have not received an adequate education in the nursing program. These were not students who were in danger of failing their nursing courses, but rather high-performing students that failed the test. Seems to me that reflects poorly on the program itself."

That WOULD EXPLAIN the nonpassing by high performance students ~

What happens if you don't pass the third time? I just started a program and if you don't pass on the second attempt, you have to re-take the specific subject or module where you missed most of the questions (okay, so what if the questions missed were scattered?). I'm really irked by this policy that they just decided to spring on us. I'm buying an NCLEX review book and I think I'll just be studying the book througout the year to try and prepare.

Maybe its the school needing to do things better. Here in PA i think its 3 tries and u have to wait about 6 months or yr to try again.

Good Luck with it all

the school trying to make things better. i doubt it because if they were, they would have offered pharmacology as a part of the curriculum, ng tubes, chest tubes to which there was no mention hardly ever.

the responsibility,at least in my school, is on the student to study study study so that YOU wont fail and never mind what they didnt teach you.

i have decided not to stress because all one can do is their best after all. i plan to cover more intently those things not taught and do my best. please pray and wish me the best and that i pass.

And if i dont pass and need to retake something so be it. In the end, i will know nursing so well after studying like a fiend which i plan to do.

BUT i soo want to pass this third time. Know too that is like half of the class not only me or just a few.

I just recently took the Hesi Exam....I passed most of the modules....One module I failed was because the first 12 questions I had no idea that we had to read the little window and then answer the questions....I just read the questions and was answering them, and I was puzzled at the sametime as to why nothing made sense....So that's why I failed that particular module....I barely missed the math by one point....I have no idea what any of the failed parts mean, but let me tell you something about the exam,.....I feel that it doesn't really measure ones academic success.....Why they use the test I have no idea....but all I think is that it does bring added stress....
