Failed first Chemistry test!

Published

I just found out I got a 51 on my first Chemistry test. I had been getting A's and B's on the homework questions. I know I am not the only one to ever fail a test. But I just feel so horrible and embarassed. My teacher is the type that yells and gets annoyed if you ask a question. I have all the websites and books available to help me. But it just isn't sinking in well. I will need to get a tutor to help me through the rest of the semester (ending the end of April). Just needed to vent. Thanks for reading!

... There is a website called www.khanacademy.com .....

the correct site is Khan Academy

The man that is in the videos, Sal, is amazzzzing! He got my A's in regular chemistry and Organic Chem! Keep your chin up and don't give up!

I definitely agree that chemistry builds onto itself! Get a hold of those basics. We're all rooting for you :)

Thank you!! :)

Yes, I have checked it out. He is awesome! Thanks for the words of encouragement!! :)

I have been creating my own study guides for chem. About a week before the test I write out a list of all the formulas or reactions, properties of chemicals or whatever we will be tested on and then spend some time every day memorizing and working through problems. I find that doing a little every day helps to get the information firmly planted in my head as opposed to trying to cram it all in there at the last minute. If your chem class is anything like mine, it's not that the information is that difficult, it's that there is SO MUCH to remember for every exam.

With regards to professors who get snippy with student questions...I agree to try to meet with the professor during office hours...once they know you a little more personally and see that you are REALLY putting in the effort, then they don't get as annoyed with questions. If students are coming to class completely unprepared for the lecture and then wasting time by asking questions they should have been able to glean from the text that is usually when they get annoyed. Make sure he knows you are putting the time in, and always be prepared for the next lecture by reading the professor's slides your textbook or the "dummies" version of what is going to be covered prior to coming to class. Good luck! It's not an easy subject.

Thank you very much!! Yes, it's the vast amount of information that needs to be remembered for the exam. :)
