Hey All:crying2:
I found this website last night after doing a search in google about the NCLEX-RN exam and the number of questions I got. Anyway, I basically knew last night that I had failed (once again) after I read about how to do the "Peason Trick." It took me all the way to the CC page... got my unofficial results today from Pearson and I failed. Have been crying non-stop for the last 1 1/2 hours... Anyway, I need a new plan but let me tell you my story first...
I graduated from nursing school in December 2006. Took the NCLEX exam about 3 months after graduation and got the full 265 questions but failed. I was so discourgaged after that!! I took the exam again about 4 months later got 75 questions and failed... Before the second time around I took the Kaplan course but didn't really do a lot of the questions before the test (my own fault totally for not studying and doing the QBANK questions, I know).
After I failed the second time I was really down with a lot of stress. I thought to myself that maybe this is just not meant to be... maybe I am not suppose to be an RN... I didn't take the test again until this past Friday 7/17. Almost 2 years from the last time I took it and got 110 questions and failed... I didn't expect to pass it this time around b/c it has been forever since I took it. I got a lot priority, infection control, and 3 SATA questions.
Now that I know I have failed I am going to take it again in 50 days and keep taking it every 50 days until I pass the damn thing!!! Hopefully forth time will be a charm!! I am so embarrassed about failing once again... I am almost at the end of the line here... I am in Texas and I have 4 years to pass the exam from my graduation date. I graduated in Dec 2006... So I have about a year and half left. Hopefully it won't take me that long...
Okay, sorry this is so long so far!! I need a plan, can anybody suggest some tips for me?? I studied about a month before I took it this time using the tests that I saved on my computer from the Kaplan course I took two years ago. I still have a lot of the unanswered QBANK questions still from the Kaplan course saved on my computer as well (I screen captured the questions unanswered then Screen Captured the questions answered with the rationales). I also studied a book that had over 3,000 nursing bullets (sorry I can't remember the exact name of the book right now. My mind is going in circles).
What books do you all suggest getting/using?? I have been reading on here a lot about Saunders? Is that a good book to use?? Should I also get the updated Kaplan book and re-order the QBANK again or just answer the un-answered QBANK questions I have saved?? I will be grateful for any tips!!! And what is the "Suzanne's Tips" that I have been reading about on here??
Thanks...
Jessica:cry:
I really want to see "PASS" in 50 days!!! I am not going to give up!!!

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear what you have been going through. I would suggest you enroll in an actual Kaplan class where you see an instructor and learn how to answer questions using the decision tree. Also, with the inclass review, you will be given access to the updated Question Trainers and QBank questions. I suggest you complete EVERY single question in the Qbank which is around 1200. Select 50 at a time, timed, and unused content. Each question you get wrong, look over the rationales and write them down.
Once you go over the rationales, look them up in Saunders 4th Edition. I would also suggest you read the Kaplan book from front to back before answering any questions.
Once you have completed the QBank, work on the Question Trainers. Your goal is to get at least 65% or above on the Qtrainers 1-5. On Qtrainers 6-7, your goal is to get atleast 60% or higher, since 6&7 are closest to NCLEX.
I suggest you do ATLEAST 150-200 questions a day. Do this for a month straight. Take off the weekends, but as soon as Monday come again, hit it hard.
You should also do questions in Saunders as well and apply the Kaplan methods. By the time you test in 50 days, you should have ATLEAST done 3000 questions.
Good luck to you!

Suzanne's plan is no longer available. You'll find info on her first tip only which from what I've read (I didn't participate) was doing the questions at the end of each chapter in Saunders and reviewing any section where you got less than 75% correct. I can't tell you where her plan would have sent you from that point but I do think it's a pretty good way to establish your weak areas. Beyond that, the general recommendation is to do 100 questions per day and study the rationales for ALL questions (wrong and right).
I have Saunders 4th ed. and it's a good book but there is a lot of material which can make it feel pretty overwhelming. There is a priority and delegation book by LaCharity that is also highly recommended as a supplement (I have it but haven't done it yet).

I agree with with the last post. HEllo I was in your shoes 4months ago ,Fail the test 3times . One day I was crying after I got my results for the 3rd time, then I went on google And I wrote failed Nclex then I found this website. I start reading all the sad stories about people like me failing more than once. The miracle happend when I found Suzan's plan and I wrote to her. She told me about her only condition which is to only only only use one book which is SAUNDER"S. I was surprised caus I had this book on my desk forever nevr used it. I trusted her and start the first step. Her plan is not available now but I can't tell you more than use the book with the CD start all over she allways say "NEW TEST NEW STUDY". Give your self aweek and start . you can search for her first step on this website for detauls about the first step. BAsiclly , YOu read each chapter and answer the question if you get 75% or more you good to move to the next chapter if not reread it again but do not look at the rational yet. When you done from the book you can move to the CD. This Cd has more than 100000 question do some every day. never over study for long hours. PLease just do that tell you go to your teast in 50 days. I knoe it is so hard to avoid other books but believe me it realy works I past my test doing this book for 6weeks . When I went to the test It was looking at this book. Every thing was from this book. don't use any thing else trust your self and you will do it. It is very simple and I'm having ahard time making people believe me. Every one think that you have to spend alot of money to pass. Please please Use this book every day and only this book. Try to search the old post about this plan and you will see what I'm talking about. SUzan's plan ( it is no longer available but just read the old post} good luck
I forgot to tell you when you do the CD you do have to read the RATIONAL even if you did get it right. I did it this way, When I'm done with any system or chapter I do a 100 question about that system. For example: I'm done with cardio& meds for cardio then I move to the questions do the rationals. some chapters are shorter than other so I'll do that in 2 days. try to leave your house and go to aplace you love to study at the same time every day , for me it was BOARDERs cause they have coffee and some to have for breakfast. I did that every day @9:30 am . When I'm board from reading, I grab amagazin or cook book. This way helped me not to look at my other books or notes too. REmember The key is to only use one book you will establish alot in a very short time than looking in 2 diffrent books. don't be sad be happy that you found us haaahaaa. Smile:lol2:

Don't say that maybe your not ment to be a nurse. Because the way I see it if you were able to make it through the nursing program than you are ment to be a nurse. I don't know about you but nursing school has been the hardest thing I have ever been through in my life! And i've had a rough life! I am awaiting my results, I studied with the newest Kaplan book which is a great guide for learning strategies. I also have and NCLEX-RN exam cram which is written by pearson vue themselves.

Try Dr. Martins review, she's really good and she does content as well as stategies to questions, it's expensive, but I think she is worth every penny. see
http://www.martinreview.com/about/index.html for more info. I did it and pass the first time with 75 questions.
thank you everyone for all of the replies thus far. i finally stopped crying a little!! i am going to take a week off from studying then start back at it again. i am also going to go buy the saunders comprehensive book. does the book come with a cd with a lot of questions?? also, is there another cd rom that i should look into that has a bunch of nclex style questions on it?? should i also buy the saunders q & a review for the nclex-rn??
agh.rn, i know i shouldn't say that i am not meant to be a nurse... nursing school was the hardest thing i have ever done and PASSED in my whole life!! if i can make it through school, i know i can pass this effin test too!!! i am just discouraged right now i went to one of the best BSN schools in my city so i know i can do this!! i just have to keep on trucking and believing in myself!!

Alright, I think first of all you need to stop identifying yourself as a failure. It has been a long time since you been in school so this time you failed with 110 questions, which is better then the other time with 75. which is a positive indication that something you retained. I do agree with another poster here. You might want to invest in Kaplan. I do the online version and I do all the questions. Every single one of them. I review every single rational. I watch all the videos and I review what I think I am not good at in Saunders. I even review correct answers that I thought I just guessed. Kaplan gives you a great way to look at questions and in their videos they even show you how to approach questions. Yes, it would cost you some money, but it is well worth it. I am in the Military and my Officers even tell me to invest the money and they told me that all their students ( they pay for all our stuff, aside Kaplan) passed with Kaplan. However, YOU HAVE TO USE IT LOL.
It will give you a great indication before you even take the test where you are at. You can see what they say what points you should get on those trainers. The book they send with that thing is good as well. Further, it speaks specifically about those who failed and what they think they should do!!!
Good luck jessica
thanks again suzanne :)
i am really thinking about just doing the whole kaplan thing again.

Hi, I passed mine on 7/17 for the first time with 75 questions. What i basically read was the Saunders and i put in extra focus on topics i was not taught in school. I tried to do at least 100 questions each day and i suplemented it with NCSBN learningtext for $49. Also if u search i think someone posted a website with the diseases and infection control, this helped me.
