I'm a F1 student, and I hope to get a volunteer position in hospital, like children's hospital or tufts medical center to gain the experience within the summer break. I'd like to do all kinds of works. But I've no idea what's the requirement?

I don't have SSN or EAD Card.

Thank you!

You really need to check that you can do something like this with your F1.

Both hospitals have volunteer programs, you will have to under go a training program. Most hospitals use volunteers to stuff envelopes, filing, xeroxing, etc. It will not count as nursing experience.

great! i had a long reply typed for you. and somehow it got deleted!! so mad....

anyways, in short contact the hospitals your looking for. let them know that your a nursing student and have clicinal experience. they'll be more than happy to provide you the volunteer experience. you can work as a nurse aide or student nurse extern. the only thing you can't have is a paycheck. explain it to the hospital HR/volunteer recruiters and to your nursing school faculties too. i'd think hospitals would be more than happy to get the help without having to pay for it.

i'm a F1 nursing student too. i've been through somthing similar. it took me a year to make the hospital realise that i was serious about it.

g'luck. it is possible!

I have been a nurse in the Boston area for a long time. Student Nurses can do an extern ship if coordinated with the school. Contracts have to checked ( insurance, paperwork, etc)and a preceptor has to found. Clinical objectives need to be set. Your nursing school has to be willing to do this.

Volunteering is done through the volunteer department and they would never authorize some one to work on the unit.
