I will be graduating from a BSN program in May 2010. I am currently on a F-1 Student Visa. I am looking for a hospital, nursing home or any other place that would be willing to sponsor me. I would like to find out about any places that are willing to hire RN's and sponsor them. Any success stories of how people were able to get sponsorship would really help.
I would appreciate any help. Looking forward to your help.
Thank you.

Hi,
I've been reading posts about people on F-1 status, and I'm just wondering what has happened since you graduated.
I'm in the same situation, as I'll be graduating this May with BSN. So, if you read this, please let me know :)
Thanks

Hi, I'm an F-1 student too. I'll be graduating next May with BSN. I'd like to hear your stories. The biggest problem is:When they sponsor you for green card, you're not sure if you can get it before OPT ends. Therefore, you need to apply for H-1B too. However, an ADN graduate can become an RN too, therefore, you need something specific( job description should state that this position requires BSN). Please let me know about your experiences..Good luck...

The ability to obtain an H-1B position in NJ is rare as their is a current oversupply of nurses. IEN nurses are required to meet the minimum educational standard required for licensure in country they received initial training and license in order to meet visa requirement.
Therefore, RN nurse educated in Philippines are required to have BSN (minimum standard); however, other countires that only grant nursing Diploma are accepted.
I am currently enrolled in a US College. Even tough I'm on F-1 visa, I'll be a US graduate. I was thinking about Magnet Hospitals. I know that they only hire BSN graduates.Do you think that could work out? Do you have any suggestions? There is also an OBGYN, MD who wants to hire me after I graduate because I speak the language that most of his patients speak.( I'm not a Philipino or Spanish). Do you think I have a chance with him for an H1B?
H1B requires that he proves unable to hire BSN graduate with job postings x sev months going unfilled. With today's many BSN prepared nurses available, I am unsure if immigration will permit.
As far as I know, nursing has an exception. The sponsor doesn't have to prove that he/she couldn't find a US citizen for that position.(I have heard that from an immigration lawyer).

Not any longer. I used to work in a corporate office of a large healthcare system and there was significant paperwork to prove that a US citizen or qualified permanent resident could not be hired before even soliciting an overseas nurse. In addition to application fees and other costs, plus the abundance of US nurses in the area it was more sensible and cost effective to simply hire a US or PR nurse.
