Expungment. Feeling overwhelmed

I have two charges. Misdemeanor battery. One from 11 years ago and another from 6 years ago. Both in California from two different counties. I’m trying to file the petitions myself through efile but they keep getting rejected and I contact the county’s law library, they sent me everything I need to do and yet still rejected. Anyone else tried to petition for expungement without a lawyer? Specifically in California?

I have been trying to petition for expungements in Kansas and Missouri for over 3 years. Have actually been using attorneys and have gotten nowhere.

I am from Orange County, CA and I'd either try legal aid or public defenders. Legal aid in Orange County in Tustin will help you file a petition for expungement but you'll be representing yourself. Public defenders will either help you file your petition or they will represent you in court.

can you get expungement from a crime that has a victim involved? I know in ohio you can not get a conviction expunged if there is a victim involved

I’m not sure. I was able to get a dismissal but an attorney for a clean slate program I talked to the other day said I wouldn’t be able to get an expungement because I was arrested and convicted.

I'm in CA, and I successfully expunged a misdemeanor without an attorney. I went to the county website where misdemeanor record was, printed, completed the necessary forms (3 separate forms) attached proof of completion such as probation department showing I owe 0 balance, -fines paid in full, informal probation completion, included a check for the filing fee and it took about 3 months. I then received an email when it was signed by the judge, at which time I called the County Superior Court to verify that it was expunged, that's it. Most times I believe you can call that specific county courthouse and ask for help with the exact process, I think you could even ask for a fee waiver if you qualify. Good luck!

I went to Legal Aid to help me with my petition for expungement, even though they will not be representing me. I am representing myself on both cases that I have. So for my petitions have went to the judges chambers and I am waiting any day now for a court orders stating if the judge granted or denyed my petitions.

Update: Both my cases have been expunged.
