I've done several travel assignments, but never had an exit interview. I don't ask for one, nor was one offered. My contract will be up this month, and I thought about asking for one. I'm not renewing this contract for multiple reasons. If asked should I be honest and say all the reasons, pick the major one, or just be quietly polite and say I'm persuing other options right now??? Besides thanking them for the opportunity to work at the hospital what should be brought up?

As a traveler, I wouldn't say anything- even if asked. NEVER burn any bridges, if you can help it at all. Listing all of the things you didn't like about the assignment has absolutely NO potential to do you any good, but it does have the potential to come back and bite you in the butt.......

I have known travel nurses who have done it. It is a really bad place to work. No one wants to be there.

The hospital could give you a bad reference, complain about you to your travel company, etc....
Isn't it against the law to say things other then dates of employment or if you would hire them back or not?
It was this way where I was from.
If that is not the case, TravelcrazyRN then maybe do you have at least one other co-worker that can be used as a reference? And don't even mention the negativity there. Just don't work there again.

Or better yet, just don't say anything- it's a travel assignment. If you don't like it there, just don't extend, and move on to the next place. Sitting down with management to tell them everything you don't like about a particular place when your assignment is over anyways isn't really going to benefit you at all.....
The manager did ask me several times if I was renewing...most recently the day after I posted the question. I just said I was going to take an assignment in another city. This manager is new and frankly clueless....the nurses on the floor know why no one is staying and they wanted me to speak up. I'm not going to be there messenger. I wasn't worried about a reference, I have references from supervisors on this assignment.
Good call- if the permanent staff has problems with their manager, they need to address them. It's not your place as a traveler to try to "fix" a particular unit's management problems...

I agree with the others that I wouldn't make any comments to the facility, however, if there are specific issues with a place I have passed this along to my recruiter to make future travelers aware: for instance if a facility floats a traveler continuously or consistently changes assignments midshift or scheduling issues, etc. I have also had my company call me for opinions to pass on to other travelers about specific hospitals and housing.

It would bite you in the butt, if for whatever reason, you decided to go back years from now, and try working at this hospital again. I think this is what the other poster meant by this statement. I agree with this statement. You might not ever think you will ever work at a particular facility, but you never know what life has in store. And you might need something from one of the other nurses that you met at this facility.
