How about a list of wierd excuses for not coming to work?

My favorite: I can't come in today, I'm having vision problems. I just don't see myself working.

I have called in a few times to my first nursing job eventhough I was not sick because I couldn't handle the stress of another night. (Mental Health Day) I did that less with my other position. I am now working in a Neuro ICU and love it. I have had many nights when I wasn't feeling well trying to get readjusted to the night shift but I never called in. I have had to call in sick for migraines a few times and have ended up in the ER when abortive meds didn't work. Before I was diagnosed with migraines, I worked the floor at my first nursing position. I had the headache for over 1 month. I had been to the doctor and was waiting to have a outpatient MRI/MRA. I asked to leave work one night so I could go to the ER. House supervisor told me "Just suck it up you have had the HA for one month." I told him I just couldn't take the pain any more and he finally caved and let me go to the ER.

We had one nurse call in and say her sister died. (she didn't have a sister), and her house caught fire 2x in one week. We were never so glad to see someone go.

One must wonder...if staying home is a mental health day, is going to work a mentally ill day??:lol2:

Not a reply to anyone in particular--but why do we feel the need to explain ourselves?? Why is it anyone's business if we call and say we are sick--why do we need to give more information than that?? Contagious or not should be the only issue that concerns our employers---and if a supervisory nurse says you need to leave for health reasons-- than no one else should question it. It's all matter of respect--for ourselves, and our co-workers.

I had a sinus infection & went to the doc... got my scripts 7 went home feelin crappy. called in for the weekend. On monday i needed a note(we were in a holiday time period & eed a note for any absence..friggin state job..) I called the dr's ofc. & the secretary says... did the doctor tell you you could stay home?

I said, listen here you! I dont need the doctors permission to stay home from work! he dosent pay my salary! I only need a note that I was there, not a permission slip!

I was so infuriated!!!

did the doc say you could... HA!!!

One time a co-worker called me to come in to work for her. She was ovulating and need to be home with her husband and have sex all day. Like a sucker I went in and nine months later she had a baby girl.

So many excuses, so little time. I had a CNA who, at 30 minutes late with no contact, was officially listed as NCNS. She came in about 10 minutes later & said she didn't hear her alarm. Her boyfriend heard the phone & woke her up but she "didn't have time to answer the phone, I would have been even later than I am." Yeah, I counseled her about the neccesity of calling in when you know you will be late.

Some of the people in the work force today must feel like the world owes them a reward just for being or something. I have worked during migraines until I literally could not stand anymore. Is there no work ethic?

Had a coworker receive a call from her husband that their goat was having babies. This gal is nuts about her animals. She went home to find one dead baby and one hypothermic baby. I must have gotten a half dozen calls that night from her asking what to do for the baby, what to do for the mama, etc. I started answering the phone, "Caprine OB, how may I help you?" It cracked us up. :lol2:

I was the RN supervisor for weekends and went to work one Saturday morning. It was foggy that morning going to work. When I got there, a CNA called in and said she could not come in b/c she started to work and a cloud landed on her car and would not get off so she had to turn around and go home. I was laughing so hard, I couldn't even talk to her..:lol_hitti

had a RN i worked with at a LTC facility that called in 1 1/2 hours into the shift and said she wouldn't be in (had called earlier and said she would be late) when i asked her why, she said "it doesn't matter, the on call person will cover for me" we didn't have an on-call person!!!!! so it was me and 4 CNAs for 75 residents. needless to say, she wasn't there anymore after that!:madface:
