Excelsior wait list for Transitions to RN class

Nursing Students Excelsior

Published

Hello all,

I am having a hard time registering for the LPN to RN transitions class. There is a wait list for this class, is anyone else experiencing the same problems?

while I can't help you as far as the fact that there is a wait list, I've never heard of an lpn to rn transition class. are you referring to nur214? you may already know this, but taking an actual class isn't necessary with excelsior, so if you want to study on your own you can and then take the test when you feel ready.

The classes are new (and much more expensive than just taking the exam) and offered on a trial basis. As enrollment is limited there is a wait list. The alternative is to simply register for the challenge exam and use the content guide to prepare you to sit for the exam.

I am currently taking health safety and A and P 1. Then i will be taking transitions. Courses are more expensive but they are financial aide eligible. I got grants and a student loan thru government. So far i am loving it but we are just in week 2. Classes filled up fast and those who registered for health safety got priority to enroll in transitions. I got in asap so that i wouldn't wait list. The exams are also available if you are in a hurry! Good luck to u

So if I sign up for the courses I can use my stafford loan and use my pell grant? is that what you did?? the school said I couldn't... :/

You need to take at least 6 or more credits. The class is only 3 so it doesn't meet the criteria for federal financial aid. They have to be class credits not challenge exams.

Soooo if I were to take 2 or more classes... equally up more than 6 credits then I could qualify?

also thank you so much for the quick reply (and sorry its off topic)

It's possible but you don't qualify to use the full amount if pell grant. Ex if you qualify for $5000 but are half time you can only use $2,500. (Possibly less).

Best bet is to chat online with someone from financial aid

great thank you I really appreciate it!! even though I just paid my 305.00 out of pocket right before I read this for the transition test lol!

You can't use financial aid for the tests. Tests are less than cost of one credit class

Oh yes I know... That's why I was saying it's a bummer I already paid for the test when if i took the course (along with another or 2) I could have used my fed aid... brightside my husband is a marine so I qualify for mycaa too... and that will pay for the tests :)
