Excelsior Nursing Program?

Nursing Students Excelsior

Published

Hello,

I am just wondering if anyone has any info regarding the Excelsior AAS/ADN nursing program. I had never heard of an online RN program (only RN-BSN/MSN programs). Is this program legit? It appears to be an expensive route, but wow it would be nice to be able to work a program around my schedule (I'm a stay-at-home mom).

Thanks for any info you may have. :)

Thank you for that advise as well! I was able to defer my seat in the traditional program for a semester. This will allow me to start EC and have a fall back if for some reason I don't like it! I really excel at self study and have feel I have great motivation! Being a PM will help but I'm sure like everyone else the cpne will be challenging but not impossible:) thanks again and I'm sure I'll be posting updates in the future:-)

NCMomof2: Thanx for posting. I've signed up with Excelsior since 2007 and havent even started yet..kinda chicken out b/c of the CPNE and doubting myself. I went backwards..I went to a 4 year BSN program..did the WHOLE program..and could not pass the exit exam to get the degree and therefore I was not bable to obtain degree and reapply. I challenge my state BON and got my LPN based on my BSN school credits. My options are very slim and Excelsior is only 1 of 2 options I have. I just recently went back to school and got my MBA in hospital admin, but nursing seems to be my first love. Everyone is telling me..girl you got your MBA..forget nursing. I just can't seem to shake it. I want to try out this new career, but if the opportunity presents..I may go for it. I have the knowledge and hospital experience, I should do fine on the CPNE, right? Also money is a factor. I'm single..no kids..but a new house..loans for the prior nursing school (private school..so loans are HIGH!), and loans for recent grad school (HIGH as well!). What does the cost looks like at Excelsior so far? Thank you!

One main question I have about EC is: If you get your RN with their program, will your credits transfer to another program in the future if you choose to go to a traditional school for your BSN or MSN? This is my only determining factor on this. I feel confident in my clinical experiences and I'm a great self-motivated learner! I complete my LPN in Dec. and want to start into my RN right away. I've looked into doing it with TCN, but I'm hearing a lot of "not so good" things about that and the costs. I really like their learning modules though..... anyone have info on those without signing their extensive contract?

Any info on this would be greatly appreciated! TY!

you can find those learning modules on ebay for maybe 20 each, do not sign with them unless you really feel like paying thousands of dollars more than you have to, plus if you ever want out, no such luck you still have to pay the 400.00 for each module due to the contract you signed...on another note, there are many people who are doing their BSN and MSN after EC but you need to check directlyl with the schools you may wish to attend to see if the credits transfer.

one other thing...my grades are in my signature and i've only used the recommended textbooks and i did sign up for one month of rnbridgeprogram.com too for their lectures. so you don't HAVE to have the learning modules to pass their exams...i'm also really good at self studying and retianing info and it usually only takes me about 3wks per exam to read all the material and take the exam

I went through College Network, I wish I would have just done it all through excelsior, I'm on my last 2 exams but alot of the questions on the tests are not even addressed in the material from college network. I've spent alot on amazon supplementing!

OK, Great!! Thank you for all the help, I appreciate it! :D

I guess that's how I'll be going then! That sounds like a much better option; I really did like TCN modules, but if I can buy them cheap - I'm all for that instead of the locked in contract!

Thank you again =)

Oh, another thought...... I know about TCN's financing options.... what about directly with EC? It seems that they have quite a large fee up front to get started (enrollment, plus first course........also, for each practice exam). I want to do practice exams until I feel confident, are there any other options for that instead of EC practice exams at $65/each?

Sorry for all the questions, just wanting to get started right away - BUT, with all the right info.

Thanks again,

Amanda

I went to a traditional school and hated every minute of it. The atmosphere reminded me of high school all over again. The teachers just lectured with powerpoints so you were pretty much left to your own devices. And the lab instructors who are suppose to demo skills could care less. When I factor in money and travel time to and from the school to listen to boring lectures when I could've been home studying. So traditional route IMO, is not always the best.

Amanda, IMO EC's practice exams are worth their weight in gold. You get 2 exams with 100 questions each. The enrollment fee does not have to be pd right away, your allowed to take gen req as well as two nursing courses (health safety and transition) before its due. The enrollment fee as well as exams have monthly pymt plans so its feasible to pay as you go. Good luck!

OK, great!! So for each $65 you get 2 exams w/ 100 questions? Thank you so much for this info! This has really helped ease my mind about the $$. I had the money set back to pay for RN school, but due to unforeseen circumstances while still in my LPN - I've had to drain that bank account......and have to start from $0.00

Thank you again! :D

BTW, where do you find a listing of their testing facilities/sites? I've searched the site everywhere and can't seem to find it. I'm wanting to make sure there are locations within a reasonable distance.....

Thanks again! You are all wonderful!
