Excelsior<? Easiest way to get RN, after LPN

Hello everyone, I am going to be starting my LPN clinicals in January. I have already completed most of my RN courses with the exception of 3 classes. I decided to go for my LPN because at my school you apply a year before you begin clinicals then once you are in it is a 2 yr. program.....It has already taken me 2 yrs. part time to complete all of my LPN classes, and most of my RN classes.

I am curious about Excelsior, Alot of my friends are telling me that once I am done with LPN clinicals I can go through Excelsior and you are on a 6-8 month waiting list but once you are called you do your clinicals in a weekend in New York, or Ohio...........This really sounds too easy to me but, I wanted to find out if there is any truth to it.

Someone....please let me know what you know about excelsior, or what do you think would be the best way for me to get my RN once I am done with my LPN.

Well, once you are done with 24 credits of Excelsior examinations you go on the clinical waiting list. I'm on it now.

the above it true and it is not necessarily easier either. you have to have dedication and discipline to complete this program. it is self paced and very easy to get off track. since the new ec curriculum started in october you would also be required to complete 3 three part assessment test then be eligible to take the cpne( three day clinical evaluation) . there are no clinicals with this program, but an clinical evaluation. this evaluation is very intense and you can fail with something as simple as not washing your hands once. it is a good program but not for everyone. if you need a class based program or not able to self study then ec is not for you. however, many nurses have become rn's by doing ec. it is definitely not easy, but very doable...

If you need classes this is NOT the route for you. It definitely requires that one be self-motivated.

You have to be extremely motivated and self disciplined to make it work. It is an excellent avenue for those who can not get into traditional nursing programs because of wait lists, low GPAs, or work or family commitments. If at all possible, you should try to get into the traditional program for the clinical experience, otherwise you will have to rely on your on the job clinical experience as an LPN. But if you put your mind to it, you can do Excelsior. Good luck with whatever you decide.
