Thanks

hi,

if you wokr as an RN in New York and if you have 1,000 hours of working as an RN then you should be fine. They will endorese your license otherwise they will make you do preceptorship

I have been an RN for a year adn they are still making me do 350 hours...i also have clinical courses' from a bachelor's college that i did not graduate from im sending those in as well so im hoping they will accept them. I thought if i had experience hours they would take it but i worked in home care so i guess they dont consider that clinical experience. hmmmm did you do excelsior?

yes, i did, I just graduated from Excelsior nursing program in January and I will be taking my NCLEX next month. When I spoke to the lady at Georgia Board of Nursing, she told me If I work out of state for about a year or 1,000 RN hours, and come back to Georgia than I will be able to endorese my license. They will not count your hours from Bachelor's degree because if you did not graduated from the program they will not count those hours. I also have a clinical hours from Bachelor's degree which I did not graduate and they told me that they will not accept those hours as preceptorship since i did not complete the program. you can try to call and see whe they tell you. This is what they told me recently. If you have a hospital expreience they will not make you do the preceptorship. Hope things work out for you and do let me know what they tell you regarding the bachelor's degree clinical hours.

They told me to submit the clinical hours and they would review it. That is all they told me so far. i have worked as an RN for almost a year here in NY, and they are still making me take the preceptorship...b/c i worked in home care i guess and not hospital based setting, im not exactly sure..

do you know how to get a preceptorship? are you going to do it or work somewhere else? i guess i understand b/c i dont feel clinically ready through Excelsior but i am ready b/c i took clinical courses elsewhere...only did not take Leadership and community health...ahhh but its all a little frustrating b/c when i called them to find out if they took excesliro students they person told me YES, as long as another state accepted it.

do you know anyone that did a preceptorship? where in Atlanta do you live? im not moving there until end of April.

Hi,

I live near by the airport. I will not do the preceptorship but will work out of state. I am getting my license from Tennessee. I will work in Tennessee or might work in another state where ever I get a job. Since Tennessee is a compact state, with Tennesse license I can work in any other compact state without endorsing my license to that particular state. I can work with my Tennessee license as long as that state that i am working is compact. There are about 23 compact states. So let see where I end up working after I pass my NCLEX. I have a friend who will be doing preceptorship in Atlanta, she is an LPN and she will have to do 350 hours. Also if you don't know, excelsior has hired a lawyer to help gerogia students get license in the state. They will help Georiga student with reducing the preceptorship hours. But in order to go through the lawyer you will have to apply to Georgia board of nursing and after the board of nursing makes decision on your case then the lawyere will be able to help you reduce the hours. I don't know how long this process will take but my friend will be going through excelsior lawyer to see if her hours gets reduced. Why are you moving to Georgia since they have problem with excelsior?

OH wow....yah i think its a bit ridiculous that we have to do preceptor ship...i dont think they understand how tough and demanding it is to pass and graduate from Excelsior...hardest thing i have ever done...anyway, im glad to see Excelsior is helping us students out. do i just contact Excelsior and let them know GA is not accepting my endorsement? right now my application is still in process but they sent me an email stating that i would have to do a preceptor ship. i was also an LPN for 4 years before getting RN so i have years of experience just not in hospital setting and i guess that is what they looking for...i never get a straight answer when i call them.

how far is TN from you? so you will have to move? my husband got a job in Atlanta so that is why we are moving..i was not aware that GA did not accept Excelsior students, and when i called to make sure before i applied they lady on the phone told me that if NY licensed me then so would GA...i guess she didn't know what she was talking about. i am also pregnant so i will need to wait a while to work anyway, so maybe i can do preceptor ship now and then work later...we shall see...does your friend have to pay for the lawyer or is it something excelsior is just providing? is Excelsior the only school that has this problem do you know...did you know this before you started the program? what kind nursing do you want to do?

Good luck on the boards. trust me if you can pass the CPNE then you will pass the boards. they are 10000 times easier. LOL. just remember ABC's first and you will pass...those were half of my questions, priority and what do you do first type questions....NEVER call MD first always intervention first then call MD...just my two sense...

I just sent you a PM.

Well, go to the Georgia Board Of Nursing Website, and you will see that there has been an amendment added to that original order. Supposedly, they are going to stop the clinical requirements for those of us who were LPN before we started excelsior and are grandfathered in... I would call them for more info as this is still new to me also. A friend told me about it on facebook. She knows her stuff when it comes to Georgia . I hope this helps!

That is exactly why -- you have to have a certain number of hours (1300?) as an RN in an acute care setting.

where on the BON does it say that about LPN and hours? i was an LPN for 4 years before RN....

if i do have to do the preceptorship do you have any idea how i go about setting this up? the BON is not much help...

THANKS!!

I also graduated from Excelsior, Sept 9, 2011. Passed NCLEX Jan 28, 2011. Formal Graduation Ceremony last week, July 8, 2011 in Albany NY. I live in Georgia, and am currently awaiting a call back from the Clinical Manager in Macon, (Medical Center of Central Georgia) for a Preceptorship to start in Sept 2011. Still waiting to hear something.
