Nursing Students Excelsior

Published

I am still debating between Excelsior and Chamberlain. I have enrolled in Excelsior as a resume booster while I look for new jobs and have signed up for their 1 credit course. I was told today that despite having all classes but ethics and a writing course, I can not start the nursing classes til January. Expository writing is not offered again until September and I can not start nursing classes until that is finished. The advisor said it would probably be two yrs from then on, this seemed like a long time especially with the tempting 10-12 months that Chamberlain offers. Of course I have little to no tuition reimbursement as I may be between jobs. Once you started the nursing component how long did it take you for the RN-BSN from excelsior? Did you work? little kiddos at home?

You will maintain the same advisor as you have now...

As far as EC trying to give false/half info, I don't think thats true. You have to look from their point of view, if every student chose to get all these gen eds elsewhere the school does lose money, so it's part of business to try to keep you within their confines of school. I think it's that and they have so many advisors, and not all are aware of everything that can be taken elsewhere. There are thousands upon thousands of students there I'm sure it's hard to keep up with everything. I will say my advisor I have had, has been AMAZING though, much better than my ASN advisor was!

My advisor has not been very helpful at all. During my ASN with EC, I don't even remember speaking to one after my enrollment was complete. Of course, that was 3 years ago but I received most of the information that I needed from the EPN. Even that has changed a great deal now. Anyway, my plan has been mapped out and I'm currently on my final essay with this writing course (final general education requirement). Then the fun really begins!!

Lyndaa I am trying to see if I can PM you, but can not figure out how to. What do you mean by self paced writing course? How do you find the class to be? I don't think I wrote a single paper in nursing school (exam heavy) so I am a bit nervous. Was the Bioethics exam through Excelsior, they told me the exam would cost 350. That is a lot of money to risk, although 95.00 is doable. How much studying did you put into the exam? Did you purchase the practice exam through them, and how much did that cost? Did you speak to advisors to help you plan this schedule?

Your mailbox is full......couldn't reply to your last PM.

I don't have a Facebook account. Have you made it to the capstone yet? I'm embarking on the unthinkable for the fall semester. I'm aiming for the January capstone. I guess I've set my sights kinda high.

I got financial aid AUDITED. My Hubby doesn't have one of his w2's from last year, so I can't get FA. I don't know what to do. He had 2 jobs and I only have 1 of his w2s. So I'm doing straighterline until we get that figured out. :(

My husband wont do it. I keep asking, but by the time he gets home from work its like 8pm Indiana time. I'm sick of asking. I'm putting my foot down. If he doesn't call tomorrow I'm gonna chew his butt out! I've never had to in the past, but dang it, I need my financial aid.

I am starting Capstone on August 26th =) Final requirement and final class, I'm thrilled! =) A total of 19 months start to finish for me for the BSN is enough! =) Had I taken the Community health nursing exam instead I would be finished next month, but i needed the GPA boosters of taking courses...I applied to South University for my FNP/MSN to start in April next year...so far i'm "provisionally" accepted but they won't fully look at everything until I complete this course in December.
