Nursing Students Excelsior

Since I've seen a few posts asking about whether they can get licensed/endorsed in their state if they graduated from Excelsior, here are the state BON requirements for Excelsior graduates:

Long story short version: 37 states have no extra requirements. 13 do have extra requirements (preceptorships, work experience, prior LPN/LVN experience, etc.) for licensure or endorsement. Be sure you are aware of these extra requirements before signing on for Excelsior, as there are a couple of states who flat-out won't accept Excelsior grads anymore.

Specific questions regarding licensure should be directed to your state BON.

Great post thank you!

Very interesting. The recruiter from Excelsior couldn't provide me this info and tried to press me into the program. I need to research more before I can sign on...like how to get clinical credit.

Thank you for the link.

If an applicant lives in a state that Excelsior is not authoirized, Excelsior will require the student to sign a waiver indicating that they are aware their State does not recognize Excelsior and they want to continue with Excelsior anyway. I had applied, paid my money and then found out that California would not accept Exscelsior. I did not sign the waiver and Excelsior had to immediately refund my money.

Buyer beware.

Or ... join the Army, work anywhere. :D

This is why Excelsior is NOT the best option for everyone, it is merely an option to consider.

Okay so I check Indiana BON website and the accredited schools webpage is under construction! I've looked on Encelsior website and Indiana isnt mentioned.

agghhh.....

Hello!! I live in Indiana..just graduated and am about take my boards! I have two friends who also have gotten their ASN from Excelsior and are working as licensed RNs here in Indy. Our BON has no stipulations for EC grads..thank goodness

That's great and good luck on the boards!

But if you decide to travel/move keep that list in mind, because there are stipulations for endorsement in most of those 13 states as well.
