Published

:sofahider hey i was just wondering if anybody knows any specifics on excelsior. me and my boyfriend were both thinking about starting the program to get our RN. i was just curious if anybody has already started/completed the program. it sounds pretty legit. i just want to make sure it'll be worth it. if u have any advice: positive or negative let me know. im open to all.

thanks a bunch :redpinkhe

I'm thinking about signing on with Excelsior for the ADN program :uhoh21: . has anyone gone through a publishing company to get the materials, (books/study guides) and then proceed to the admission process of Excelsior? I want to make sure that I'm not getting ripped off by either the publishing company who claims that I would have to fork out over $2,995 to be applied to Excelsior at my third nursing concepts course. And then, another says, $800. What's the truth here? Help with some direction. Thanks.

Save your money, Excelsior provides you with all you need.

The only state not accepting Excelsior grads at all right now is California, and that will likely change before too long, as Excelsior is working with California on this.

Where do you get this information? It's misleading at best.

Again: The state board has asked for a special appropriation of $230,000 to fight Excelsior's lawsuit on this.

I seriously doubt that the California board is working on some deal with Excelsior when they're appropriating money to fight the lawsuit in court.

Seems like these statements are more wishful thinking than anything else. Unless you're counting on Excelsior winning the lawsuit which, IMHO, is unlikely.

Not trying to spread misinfo. about the deal with California, this is what I was told by Excelsior.

I do know it is true that the only state not accepting EC grads at all is California. Good thing for me, I have no desire to even visit California, much less move there.

Actually, Illinois does not (& never has) unless you've been an RN elsewhere for 2 years. Kansas has recently changed it's policy & does not allow EC students to take their NCLEX there (not sure what the endorsement policy is).

Yes, I am aware of the deal with Illinois. And Washington. And Georgia...California is the ONLY state not accepting EC grads at all, just like I said.

Me too! First time and no repeats on anything! I was out by 10 am Sunday. It can be done with good prep.

Did you attend one of the workshops before CPNE? If so, did you feel it was worth the expense? Was the video helpful for preparation?

So are you saying California won't accept an RN from EC after they've practiced elsewhere?

I did not & always thought I would have been less stressed if I had. However, I still passed on the first go so it would be up to the individual if it's worth it or not.

Gail,

Yes, I did attend an EC worshop in Albany, NY. The workshop IS NOT intended to teach. You need to know all the critical elements and know the skills listed at the back of the study guide. The EC workshop is for validation and feedback. With that said, I did enjoy the workshop however it isn't necessary if you know the study guide and can do what is listed as skills. Know the critical elements (I can't repeat that enough). I did have the EC video and found it to be a very informative overview of the exam. It really is meant for an orientation vs. teaching. Hope this answers your questions. The test is tough if you are unprepared and very doable if you are prepared.

If you enrolled in EC before December, 2003 then you can practice in California. But if you enrolled in EC after December, 2003 California will not give you a license, even if you've practiced elsewhere.

Thanks for clearing that up for me as I wasn't sure what the new rules were. I travel & though I've never worked in CA, I wondered if I'd have the option to do so.

Do you know what they do (I did my RN several years ago so no problem for me but just wondering) if one gets a FNP (Masters level) in another state if they were a EC grad enrolled after DEc. 2003?
