Exam in Canada...is it harder than NCLEX-RN?

I am a US-RN and is planning to take the exam for nurses in Canada because we plan to migrate to BC. Can anybody give me some info about the exam? Is it harder then NCLEX-RN?

It is completely different, it is much more similar to the old licensing exam that we used to have in the US prior to the NCLEX-RN exam. It goes much more into patho/physiology, drugs, etc. Similar to the CGFNS exam that is out there, that all foreign nurses used to be required to take to work in the US, before taking our licensing exam.

The lab values will be different, especially the blood sugar level,s they use a completely different scale. The names of the meds will be different as well, for quite a few.

I agree with Suzanne - there are differences in drug names and lab values.

I thought the NCLEX was easier. But I'm sure it's different for everyone. Good luck!

I am planning to take the CRNE this oct. in bc and I purchased the canadian prep guide which has practice tests. Does anyone have any suggestions on what else i can get to prepare for the exam : i am a us rn .

Like previously mentioned, I would know Canadian lab values and be familiar with common Canadian drug names. Nursing is "universal" to an extent, but numbers and names are not.

I don't know if there are Canadian books out there for this, but you might also consider contacting some education departments of Canadian hospitals. They might have some info, study guides, etc., for you.

Good luck!

Hi there:

I was wondering if you are a US educated RN or Canadian educated GN. Have you been "approved" to take the CRNE in Oct by BC? I am moving from the US to Alberta and had to send my transcripts, etc and $200+ to have them look at them. They said they would take many weeks (I sent this stuff in Feb and am still waiting), and although I would like to take the CRNE in Aug. in Alberta, I do not know if they will even have my papers cleared, nor do I know if I have the "proper" education to be able to gain acceptance by the province to take the exam...

What steps have you taken to be "accepted" to take the CRNE in BC (if you don't mind me asking). Alberta is taking me through the wringer and it is not just me as an RN coming into Canada and saying I want to take the CRNE- they have to "invite" me to take it...just curuois about your experience.
